From Braxil.—ThoN. Y. Cotiriorhas received
Rio de Jnneiro journal of August 10, by which
it appears that the young Emperor, Don Pedro
I assumed tho government of his empire on the
j&j of July, after a sort of revolution. A reso
lution had been offered in the Chamber of Dep-
ties, by Senor Machado, declaring the Emperor
if age? but while the Chamber wo* in debate
jpon it, a decree from the Regent was brought
in and rend, proroguing the Chamber to the 20th
fNovember. A cry of " treason—the Regent
Is a conspirator," was forthwith set up, andatu-
nuIt arose, in which the spectators in the gnlle-
-ies took part. Many of the members, at the
mil of Machado, then left the Chamber and pro-
seeded to the Sorfate, whence a deputation was
lent to the Enjperor inviting him to assume the
feigns of government, to which he assented,
■'hat night the city was illuminated.
The next day tho Emperor went to the Legis-
itivo Hall, and took the oaths. A new ministry
as immediately formed, composed as follows:
State.—Antouio Carlos Ribeiro de Andrada
I Janice.—Antonio Paulino Lemes de Abreu.
1 Finance.—Marteno Francesco, Rcbreiro de
Indrada.
I IVar.—Francisco de Paula Cavalcanti da A l
iqnerqne!
Marine.—Antonio Francisco de Paula CaWan-
hnto.

■ The Emperor is yet a mere boy, and of course
lia change in the government is only a transfer
r power from oue party to another.

SAVANNAH MARKETS, SEPTEMBER 19.
COTTON.—In Uplands there has been n good
enquiry during the past week, but from the limited
stock on sale, the transactions have been light. The
new crop is coming in pretty freely—a few bales of
which have been sold at 10 cents, but prime might be.
quoted as worth 10 1-9 cents, in proptrtions to tho
sales of other qualities. In Sea Islands we have
heard of no transactions.
RICE--There has been a moderate demand for
this article during the past week. We quote $3] to
•3|—principally 93}.
CORN -This article has advanced a little. We
quote 80 cents pur bushel.

AUGUSTA, Sept. 16— Cotton--TheCotton market
since our last statement on Monday evening, has been
without change, the atock for sale is comparatively
nothing—the receipts of old is hardly worth notice,
consequently prices may be considered nominal.
One load of8 square bales neweropi has been receiv.
ed this morning from the plantation of Turner Clan
ton, Esq., Columbia county, and consigned to Messrs
Clarke, McTier 5c Co./the quality reported ns the
samples were drawn from the bales, vis > 3 ordinary
to middling, tho remainder fully fair. Livorpnol
clas-dlications, the staple good ."the entire was ueld

other 9}cts.

vannah 9} per cent; Philadelphia, &} pot cent; Lex

NEW-YORK, SEPT. 13.- Coffee- -The market
closes very Arm, and the stock of Brasil does not now
exceed 8000 bags. Sales have been made of 1500
bags Brasil,10 al9 cts;300 Laguayra.il ; iSOCuba,
10}; 700 old Government Java, 18}a 13}; and tome
Sumatra, 10| a ll cents, all on the usual time.
Cotton—By the ship Alexander at this port, from
Liverpool, advices have been received from that place
to 6th August, two doya latter than by the Acadia.
The sales there on tne 5th, amounting to 7 a 6000
bales, without change in prices.
The market for Cotton here since our last report
has continued very quiet, and owing to large receipts
for the season, and the absence of demand for export,
purebasesjof Upland could probably be made ot rath
er lower rates, as some holders seem more anxious to
realise. The sales embrace 400 bales Upland and
Florida at 8 a 10} cts., with a few allOJalO}: and
800 Mobilee,9 a ll}, forming a total for the week of
only \300 bales.
Flour—For the last three days there has continued
a steady, good demand for Western Flour, mostly for
city use and the Eastern market. Holders continue
firm and although no advance can be considered as
established, then is less offering at our lowest quota
tions, and Enhanced rates aro now generally demand
ed. Troy has sold at 95; Genesee, common to fan
cy brands at 95 a 519}; and Ohio, round and flat
hoops, 94 94 a 5, at which tales the sales have been
to the extent of nearly, if not quite, all received. For
Southern the demand is moderate, and sales are most
ly made In small parcels within the range of our quo
tations. 500 bbls. Richmond City Mills. " Clark &
Co..” have been taken for export to South America
at 96 25, cash.
Afobwm—Prime qualities continue scarce and in
demand. We notice sales of 484 hhds. and IS tea.
from Cardenas, Cuba, nt2l cents; 150 hhds. Nuevitas,
in lots, 32; 64 Porto Rico wit-iin our range, all on 4
mas. credit; and 110 SourMatanzaa fur distilling, on
terms we did not learn.
Provisions—Mess and Prime Pork continues in re-
inest. and the stock of the latter is now quite light.
Jeefis without change, with sales to a fair extent at
our quotations. Lard is in demand at 12al2}c.;
and Smoked Hams, 11} a 19. Prime Butter is more
plenty, and mny now bo quoted 15 a 16c. Box Su
gars is taken at 7; and casks 5} a 7c according to qaal-
tty.
Rice—The sales of the week have been confined to
■mall parcels fot home use at 93,87} cash. The mar
ket is now well supplied, but the present high rate
precludes transactions for export
Sugars—Tho market/or all descriptions closes very
firm s the stocks generally are light, and there is now
but little arriving. The sales embrace 950 hhds.
Porto Rico at 7] a 8} cents; 250 Naw-Orleans, 7 a 7J;
70 St.Crolx 8} a 8}; 220 Cuba Muscovado,7]; 795

10th is about full, including 100 bales square Cotton
at jd. per lb. To London there is less offering. To

LIVERPOOL, AUG. l. -Cotton-We have had a
large business doing this week, but still the improve
ment in prices is barely worth notice extreme rates
have been obtained for all qualities of Amrrlcnn
(short staple) and for the mlddlo down to ordinary }d
advance may be quoted; tho disposition to purchase
on speculation is again more general, indicating a
more fnvotalle opinion of the market, which has been
backed by operations on this account to the extent of
11,500 bales, all American. Exporters have taken
lOOObales American, 200 Surat and Madras, and 50
Pernatna. The public sales of Sea Island to day
went off heavily, but ot previous ratea; 600 white
were offered, and 360 sold at 13d to 17d; and of 100
stained offered, 80 sold at Old to lid. Tho sales to
day are 6000 bales of all kinds. The import this
week is 8709 baus, and the sties 39,950.
LIVERPOOL, AUG. 7.—Com Exchange—Incon
siderable ns the arrivals of grain were up to Tuesday's
market, they have continued extremely small, and
we have no Flour whatever to report (from any quar
ter since that date; of all articles from granary, how
ever, the supply far exceeds the present demand;
which, Influenced by the prevalence o funiformly fino
wpjthor, the near approach to harvest, and the im
proving state of the averages on Wheat, has been ex-
cbedingly limited for all sorts of free produce be
tween Tuesday and to-day; and of Wheat and Flour
in bond during that period, a few sales only hove been
effected. By the Corn return* received here this
morning, the duty on Wheat is reduced to )3a 8d, on
Peas to 2s per quarter, and on Flour to 8s 3}d per
barrel -,remaining in all other respect* unaltered. A
few sales offrteWheat were made, merely of a tri
fling retail character at a decline of about 2d to 3d per
70 lb from our previous quotations, and bad more ex
tensive operations been practicable, a still greater
abatement must have been conceded. Bonded Wheat
and Flour, also, borely sustained our last currency.
Free Flour was Is per burrel cheaper.
LONDON, AUG. 6.—Corn—We have still small
arrivals of grain, but a fair quantity of Flour.
General average price o! wheat for the week end-

Extract of a letter received in Charleston.
"LIVERPOOL, AUGUST 7.-Cotton has been
growing in favor. EVery one seems satisfied that,
under the circumstances, the quotations are moderate
the holders, as well os buyers, maintaining this opin
ion ; the former, by putting only parts of their stocks
on the market for sale, and withholding the greatbulk
for a future day: the latter by making their purchase*
with nlacrity ond confidence, and in quantity some
what exceeding their immediote wants.
“ The total sales of the week will amount to 39,950
bales; 11.500 American being on speculation, and
1000 American, 50 Pernara, and 300 Surat for ex-
port.
“ Prices of the omraon qualities of American de
scriptions are somewhat higher, the speculative de
mand having gone much on those descriptions; but*
looking at the market as a whole, it is not necessary
to raise the quotations, bat merely to state, that they
are firmly maintained.
