occasioned by .pacnlalion bn. not been mnimmncdin
. lei, active markett ibe oul going, ip the wade and
for exportation about equal llio receipt, within tile
same time. Speculators have confined their purcha
ses exclusively tn American, and as formerly have
eiventhe preference to the better Qualities! the quan
tity now held hero for resale must be large, no oppor
tunity having occurred for a considerable time of rea
lising profits, whilst spiuners have been able constant
ly toadd to their stocks on former terms- their pur
chases now exceed the quantity taken by them up to
this period of last year, by upwards of 7000 bags per
week The export deiuaud has considerably abated
and we cannot expect many more orders till the con
tinental stocks are lessened. The extent of direct
supplies from the United States was not known till
snostofthe usual spring orders hud been filled.
"Our total supplies exceed by 300,000, and our de
liveries by 240,000 bales, those of first 8 months of
lastyear: our stocks are very nearly the some, but
a similar rapid reduction aa occurred iu the last 4
months, cannot be h oked for thiayear. Our receipts
from India will be very large, and if the American
cron should be early and good, but little intermission
will occur to shipments, and our receipts before 3lat
December next mny be very considerably augmented
from the prolific scource of supply. The compara
tive slocks in the interior at this time and last Septem
ber, shew an important difference, but there is no
present reason to fear any diminution in the demand
by the trade, for so long as prices remain at their pre
sent standard, every spinner who has the menna will
keep a large reserved stock. The demand for Cot
ton Goodsis increasing, but prices are as low as be
fore in all the heavy fairies, nor domanufacturersenter-
tain any hope for a better scale of renunerotion for a
long time to come. All the large markets nt hand are
being filled up with low priced goods, and thore at a
distance that are now oped to unrestricted trade do
not offer very flattering prospects. Altogether the
prospects in favor of higher prices for Cotton are not
sufficiently decided to enable ns to hold out much en
couragement for shipments upon the last quotations
that reach us from the different markets in the United
States. The question of our home harvest may be
consideied ns novf decided in favor of a full average,
crops the late unsettled weather has done no harm
, whatever! it has, however, enabled the grain specu
lators to carry'their point bnd probably before the end
of next month. &om 3 to 4 millions worth of foreign
min and flour will he released a\ the low duties,
tfter that period we tnay look for a gradual doclino
in the price of all kinds of human food and a scale of
iigher duties permanently established.
"The money market has fluctuated a good deal
lately with the views that have been brought to bear
from time to time upon the changing aspect of Euro-
loan politics. It now appears ccrtatn that the East
ern treaty will not interrupt our amity with France:
‘there is a marked feeling in this respect during the
last week, which has occasioned improvement in the
continental exchanges, hitherto more depressed from
[the alarm felt by European capitalists, than any bal
ance to be adjusted from the late imports of gram.
" The inarketbaa been very quietduring Saturday
[and to-day."
LIVERPOOL, AUG. 29.—Cotton—The demand
I for Cotton still continues to be limited. The sales
■this doy did not exceed 2080 bags but prices were
■steadily supported, and holders bad a confident up-
■pea ranee.
Tf LIVERPOOL. AUG. 28.—Cotton— 1 The only ob
servations wc have to make differing fmtn last week,
[are merely that the common qualities of American ns
(well as Sprat command very extreme rates, and Drn-
Ms arc, if any thing, rather lower. The soles to-dny
[are about 4000 bales, with a very fair demand. Specu
lators have taken 1500 bales of American and expor
ters 600 American. The imports this week aie 32,-
