SAVANNAH MARKETS, SEPTEMBER 80.
COTTON.—There h«> been Imt little doing in
Upland* the peat week, and tho account*, brought by
the steamer* from England, notbeing deemed favor
able, the market bn« been rather quiet The aalea of
the week will reach about 880 bale* at price* rang
ing from 0J to 10 Jo. A few bales of Sea Island were
sold at from 87 to 34 eenta.
RICE.—There baa been a moderate demand for this
article alnce our laat and aalea will barely reach 200
casks at from $3| to 3J, and to retailers at $3{.
CORN.-—Retails 7fi to 80 cents.
FREIGHTS.—-To Liverpool |d to )d per lb. To
New*Ytrk 75 cents per bale for Cotton.
AUGUSTA, SEPT. 84.—Cotton—During tho past
week the demand for cotton has been good, but the
sales have been confined principally to wagons. From
warehouses the business has been very limited, the
salesbeimr so.few that they are senreely worth e
notice. Tho recent advices from Europe bnvohad
but little or no effect on the market further than to
make holders more firm in their asking prices; but
purchasers do not appear very anxious tooporate.e ven
at former rates. Tho receipts of cotton during the
week will reach three hundred halos, about two nun*
dred of which wore of the new crop, most of the latter
was sold from wagons on arrival at fromOJ a 10
cent*. So far, what we have received of the new
crop, the staple is very good, but the quality cannot
be expected to roach the old crop for some weeks to
come. We quote as the extremes for old cotton 7 a
10, for new 9|a10.
Groccrlti—Tlioro is a fair business doing in the gro*
, . eery line. Our merchants aro daily returning from
he finds it converted into the north where they have laid in good stocks which
r, of about the same value have been purchased at low rates.
Exchange—As will be seen by our tables is
on the decline—sight checks on New*York tire sell
ing at 7 per cent. prem. for currontj money—for mo
ney of apeciepaying banks in the city itcan be bought
atlalj premium. J

Here it would seem that 15 per ceut. would be
