AS complaints have been made, and
great inconveniences said to exist in car*
lying the Patrol Law into execution, for
remedy whereof, the Colonel orders and
diredts the Officers commanding the
Four Line companies in the ift Bataiion,
Chatham Regiment of Militia, to enroll
all the white male inhabitants within
their several beats from the age of fixteea
tofixiy years of age, (as wtli horse as
alarm men) as also all such women as are
pointed out by the said a&, (except Inch
persons as do pioduce certificates from
tile Fire Companies, No. 1 and 2, Artil
lery, Rangers and Guards, as being atten
tive members of duty) and the aforefaid
cfficers, commencing with the ift com
pany in order, will furnifh r cn men for
guard, each night, positively at 8 o’clock,
armed and equipped as the said a& di
rects : and the captain or one of his Sub
alterns will attend with the Adjutant k as
often as convenient, to fee the Guard set
and fee that no perlon is uken as a sub
stitute unless he is known to the adjutant
(or officer who may attend with h m) to
be a man of good chara&er, produces
recommendation or certificates from 3

Ift Battalion, vouching for their honesty,
sobriety and integrity, and the adjutant
Will take down at the time of fetturg the
guard the names of all the defaulters
which may happen at the time of letting
the guard each night and immediately fili
