To the Public.
if. qARNDCHAN and P. MITCIIEI.I., are
.ill ferry to be again brought before the public,
by a second notice of Mr. Christie’s, who has
undoubtedly claims against til- in, which, wiit n
finally liquidated on the decision of the suit now
pending, they will try to satisiy as soon as possi
ble thereafter. . , .
The deeds under which Mr. Chrnf.iec.aims an
exclusive right to all the real and personal es
tate of Comocjvm tt Mitchell, are considered as
informal, uniosr tnYd illegal. Hence they have
heen brought and are slill before the court, and
other deeds have been executed anil recorded,
coavemr.g the prope tv for the use ot all their
creditors, Mr. Christie included, without any
trust or reservation beneficial to C. &■ M or then
families, and if this be not agreeable to that
gentleman, it must nevertheless appear tan anc
equitable to the public and all who have a sense
of justice. , .
The Trustees under the late aeeus are anxious
to sell the lands in Florida, alluded to m the no
tice of Mr. Christie, and to apply the proceeds,
to the immediate payment ot part ot Ins de
mand, and deposit a sufficiency thereof to covers
all his claim, subject to the decision of the courts
—but his opposition to any reasonable sale, as
one interested in his own right, whilst injuring
all parties concerned, must be borne until a sale
can be made under an order ot court.

The subscriber respectfully submits to the
public the following
PROPOSALS,
h or publishing at ATHENS, in the State of Gear.
“ ,!e ‘” weekly paper, to be be entitled the
athkN eum.
IN a community cf Freemen, and where a
disposition to patronise Literature and Sci
ence is extensiveiv manifested, the importance
ot a well conducted Newspaper, must, “f ne
ccssity, be generally understood; and among
a reading people, such a paper can hardly fail j
ot being acceptable That the Atheneum will
he a pajier ol this description, it mighi perhaps
be (Ai med presiimptiu-us to assert • hut sc far
as the efforts of the Editor can render ii useful,
so far as persevering industry and attention can
insure success to his undertaking- so far, at
least, the subscribe!-can pledge himself, ili .t
he will endeavor to vender tu-paper w* vth
’ ,,e growing importance of Athens, where
the flu nailing University of the State is tor.a
ted, and surrounded, as it is, by an intelligent
and wealthy neighborhood, has induced :• be : t
that no place in the upper conntr: vreserteda
more inviting opening for the establishing a
new weekly paper-—and the influence m this
opinion has led to the present proposals, and j
th( subscriber flatters himself, that, in lib- i
eral patronage of an enlightened community, j
ins undertaking wilt rt ceive an appioYing sane- j
lion. And while his own exertions w ill be .-er- j
severingly employed to furnish a paper which j
shall be useful to his supporters, lie will yen ;
tore to hope that his columns may be diversified j
by the occasional communications of such srien
tifio and literary^!lends as may be disposed,
through this medium, to aid him, and benefit
the community.
To make his paper useful, wiii be tbe propri
etor’s principal aim ; and in the furtherance of
tins object, he will endeavor to give tbe earliest
Foreign and Domestic ltdeliigei.ee, with such
portions of Congressional matter, when the Na
lional Legislature are in session, as his limits
will allow—together with such origin al or se
lected Political Commuideations, or Moral Es
say’s as have.the public good in ‘ietv, nor! are
free from personalties : but to articles intended
merely to gratify revengeful feelings, and to
.revoke or continue persona! contests, no p’ace
will be given. Ami though in judging of these
the editor may occasionally err, it is to be ho
ped that no improper motives rnay be supposed
to influence bis decision, intisnmch as the right
isf rejecting, a* well as of inserting commuttica
tinns, must be reserved to himself.
As an editor it will bs his interest—as it will
be, under all circumstances, ilis inclination —
to give general satisfaction. From the line of
impartial duty, he will endeavor ivA to depart ;
and none shall have cause to accus ;*m of vol
untai ilv giving a needless Alienee to .single in
dividual.
Ii will scarcely lie necessary to say, that the
political complexion of the Atheneum, will be
U ipubhcan In this age of light and knowledge,
and in this country, none oilier ought to ask, or
could be expected to receive, public patron
age.
CONDITIONS.
The Atheneum wihU>e published once a week,
on a super-roval sheet,and delivered to subscri
bers or forwarded by mail, at Three Dollars a
vear, payable in aiff’ nee, or Four Do Hart, ii

Lands for Sale.
* TILL be disposed of at a low price and on
accommodating terms, availin') • ract of
land on Lewis’Greek and on die Altamahs river
4 miles above the town of Darien, formerly the
property of Mr. AVm. Joyner. The tract consists
of 1190 acres, 200 of which are cleared and im
proved with the ordinary Plantation Houses—
There are about 800 acres of first quality tide
land, suitable for the culture of Rice, Cotton or
Sugar; the remainder high land, with an extern
sivv know l fine elevation on which the settle
ment is made.
The land is well timbered, and from its conti
guilv to a market, will, in its clearing, instead ot
incurring expense, produce profit by the sale ot
SVngles and other lumber, the proceeds of which
must far exceed the expences of the labor. This
tract is one of the oldest surveys and consequent
ly best selection of River Swamp land, with an
excellent pitch of tide, suitable to any species of
culture —having a beautiful scite for a residence
and located at an agreeable distance from the
town of Darien, for purposes of business or plea
sure. Terras and a inure particular description
