S CARNOCHAN and P. MITCHELL, are
sorry to be again brought before too public,
by a second notice of Mr. Christie’s, who has
undoubtedly claims against th- m, which, when
finally linuidated on the decision of the suit now
pending, they will try to satisfy as soon as possi
ble thereafter. ......
The deeds under which Mr. Clmsue claims an
exclusive right to all the real and personal es
tate of Cornochan Ik Mitchell, are considered as
informal, unjust and illegal. Hence they have
been brought and are still before the court, ana
other deeds have been executed and recorded,
convevinfr the property for the use ot a!their
creditors', Mr. Christie included, without any
mist or reservation beneficial to C. Sl M or their
families, and if this be not agreeable to that
gentleman.it must nevertheless appear tairand
equitable to the public and all who have a sense
of justice. ,
The Trustees under the late needs are anxiou.,
to Sol! the lands in Florida, alluded to in the no
tice of Mr. Christie, and to apply the proceeds,
to the immediate payment cl part ot Ins de
mand, and deposit a sufficiency thereof to covers
all his claim, subject to the decision of the courts
—but his opposition to any reasonable sale, as

all parties concerned, must he borne until a sale

has been accustomed to follow the boating busi
ness between this and Augusta, and is well
known in Savannah, and formerly belonged to
Robert Isaacs. He may probably have chanced
ms, name or endeavor to pass for a free man.
Any person or persons who will deliver the said
i\egro to the Subscribers in Savannah shall re
ceive fifty dollars reward, or if tliev will lodge
him in any jail in this state or in South Carolina
so that, the subscribers may get him, shall re
ceive forty dollars reward by applying to the
subscribers, as the said negro belongs to thi
subscribers at ‘his tune.

IN a community of Freemen, and where a
disposition to patronise Literature and Sci
ence is extensively manifested, the import ante
of a well conducted Newspaper, must, of ne
cessity, be generally understood; and among
a reading people, such a paper tan hardly fail

opinion has led to the present proposals, and

his undertaking will rt ceive an approving sane
tion. And while his own exertions will be per
severingiy employed to furnish a paper which
shall be useful to his supporters, he will ven
ture to hope that his columns may be diversified
by the occasional communications of such scien
tific and literary friends as may be disposed,
through this medium, to aid him, and benefit
the community.
To make his paper useful, will be the propri
etor’s principal aim ; and in the furtherance of
this object, he will endeavor to give the earlieit
Foreign and Domestic Intelligence, with such
portions of Congressional mat'er, when the Na
tional Legislature are in session, as his limits
will allow—together with such original or se
lected I’olitical Communications', or Moral Es
says as have the public good in view, and are
free from personalities : but to articles intended
i merely to gratify revengeful feelings, and to
provoke or continue persona! contests, no place
will he given. And though ir judging of these
the editor may occasionally err, it is to be ho
ped that no improper motives may be supposed
to influence his decision, inasmuch as the right
of re jecting, a . well as of inserting communica
tions, must be reserved to himself.
As an editor it will be his interest—as it will
he, under all circumstances, his inclination—
to give general satisfaction. From the line of
impartial duty, he will endeavor not to depart;
and none shall have cause to accuse him of vol
untarily giving a needless offence to a single in
dividual.
It will scarcely- be necessary to say, that the
Dolitica! complexion of the Atlieneum will he
Republican. In this age of light and knowledge,
oid in this country, none other ought to ask, or
could be expected to receive, public patron
■ge.
CONDITIONS.
The Atlieneum will be published once a week,
i'll a super-royal sheet, and delivered to subscri
bers, or forwarded by mail, at Three Dollars a
year, payable *n advance, or Four Dollars, il
payment is deferred to the end of the year.
All subscriptions w ill Ir- for one year as lea t,
and till a discontinuance is directed No paper
discontinued, except at the option of the editor,
until all dues are paid.
1 Advertisements will be inserted at the usual
rates.
{Lj’Pcrscr.s disposed to encourage the under
taking, are requested to signify the same by
the first of September, as it is contemplated to
issue the first number early in that month.
