trust or reservation beneficial to C. & M or their
families, and if this be not agreeable to that

The Trustees under the late deeds are anxious
to sell the lands in Florida, alluded tp m the no
tice of Mr. Christie, and to apply the proceeds,
to the immediate payment ot part of tus rte
msnd, and deposit a sufficiency thereof to covets
all his claim, subject to the decision of the courts
-but his opposition to any reasonable sale, as
one interested in his own right, whilst injuring
all parties concerned, must be borne until a sale
can be made under an order ol court.

a rtadmg people such a paper can hardly fad
of being acceptable. That the Alheneum will
oe a paper of this description, it might perhaps

as the el.orts of the Editor can render it useful,
so tar as persevering industry and attention can
insure success to his undertaking-so far, at
east, the subscriber can pledge iiimself, that
lie will endeavor lo render his paper worth
I he growing importance of Athens, where
the nourishing University of the State is (oca
ted, and surrounded, as it is, by an intelligent
and wealthy neighborhood, has induced a belief
tnat no place in the tipper country presented a
more inviting opening for'the establishing a
new weekly paper—and t|te influence of this
opinion has led to the present proposals, and
the subscriber flatters himself, that, in the lib
eral patronage of an enlightened community,
Ins undertaking will rt reive an approving sanc
tion. And while his own exertions will be per
sevenngly employed tc furnish a paper which
shall be useful to his mpporters, he will ven
ture to hope that hiscoutnns may be diversified 1
by the occasional comnunications of such scien- 1
tific and literary fiieidsas maybe disposed,
through this medium,to aid him, and benefit *
the community.
To make his papemseful, will be the propri
etor’s principal aim ; and in the furtherance of
tins object, lie will euleavor to give the earliest
Foreign and Domesic Intelligence, with such
portions ofCongresional niat'er, when the Na
tional Legislature ire ir. session, as his limits
will allow—togethe ’"itli such original <>r se
lected Political Comnunications, or Moral Es

free, from personalties : but to articles intended

provoke or continis personal contests, no place

and none shall live cause to accuse him of vol
untarily giving aneedless ollence to a single in
dividual.
It will scarce* be necessary-to say, that the
political comphrion of the Atheneum will be
could be expdted to receive, public patron-

CONDITIONS.
The Athenom will be published once a week,
on a super-rial sheet,and delivered to subscri
bers, or foi-wrded by mail, at T hree Dollars a
year, payab! in advance, or Four Dollars, if
payment is oferred to the end of the year.
Ml subseptions will be for one year at lea-1,
and till a diiontinuance is directed. No paper
discontinue, except at the option ol the editor,
until all di'S are paid.
