Mr. Slang had just.married asecond wife.
On tho day after the wedding Mr. Slang
said,—
“I mean to enlarge my dairy.”
“You mean our dairy, my dear," replied
Mr*. Slang.
“No,” quoth Mr. Slang; “I say I shall
enlarge my dairy.”
“gay our dairy, Mr. Slang.”
•‘No; my dairy.”
“Say our dairy, say our," screamed Mrs.
Slang, seizing tho poker.
-My dairy! my dairy ! my dairy!” voci
ferated the husband.
“Our dairy! our dairy ! our dairy !” re
echoed the wife, emphasizing each word
with a blow of tho poker upon the back
of her cringing spouse.
Mr. Slang retreated under the bed In
passing under the bed-elothes, Mr Slang's
hat was brushed off. lie remained under
cover several minutes, waiting for a calm.
At length his wife saw him thrusting his head
out at the foot of the bed very much like a
turtle from his shell.
“What aroyou looking for, Mr. Slang?”
says she. ,
“I am looking, my dear, to see if I can
see anything of our hat.”
The struggle was over. And ever since
the above memorable occurrence, Mr. Slang
has studiously avoided the use of the odi
ous singular possessive noun.
A humorous divine, visiting a gentleman
whose wire was none of the most amiable,
overhead his friend say:—
“If it was not for that stranger in the
noxt room, I would kick you out of doors."
T.'pon which tho clergyman stopped in
and said,
“Pray sir, make no stranger of me.”
English travelers complain that they
arc so much hurried in our stage: coaches.
An Irish traveler took a different view of
the case, honest Pat came in at one o’clock
and was called up in half an hour.
“ And what will yo charge for that bit
of lodging?”
“ Twenty cents.’’
“ And sure it was kind in you to call
me so airly, if I’d slept until morning I’d
notliave money enough to pay my bill.’’
My old nurse, Mrs. Patrick O’Toole, 1
said Cousin Jerry, “ was a woman of logi
cal mind. I was very sick once, and the
doctor left an atrociously bitter drug, which
I rather declined taking. But Mrs. O’Toole
carried the day.
“ It’s the doctor’s orders,” cried that
good lady, “ and if you don’t go by the doc
tor’s orders it ain’t no use to be sick at all.”
“ I swallowed my own scruples and the
doctor’s also.”
...As one of the Dover, English, volun
teers was passing along, rifle in hand, he
was accosted by a precocious urchin, who
called out:
“ Who shot the dog ?”
This saying our friend appeared by no
means to relish; so turning sharply he
said:
“ If you arc not off, I’ll shoot a donkey.”
Whereupon tho boy, calling out to one’ of
qis companions, rejoined :
“ I say, Bill, look here—this ere fellow
is going to commit suicido.”
...A sneaking, dirty fellow being in fea
of bailiffs, wished to disguise himself. A
wag gave him the following advice :
“ Wash yourself, and hoid up your head,
and 1 assure you nobody will suspect who
you arc.”

PIMPLES ON THE FACE, ROUGHNESS OF
THE SKIN, etc.
The IRON being absorbed by the blood, and
thus circulating through the whole system, no
part of the body can escape their truly wonder
ful influence.
The experience of thousands daily proves that
no preparation of Iron can for a moment be
compared with it Impurities of the blood, de-
pression of vital energy, pale and otherwise
sickly complexions indicate its necessity in al
most every conceivable case. In all eases of
female debility (floor albus, chlorous, etc.), its
effects are delightfully renovating. No remedy
has ever been discovered, in the whole history
of medicine, which exerts such prompt, happy,
and fully restorative effects. Good appetite, com
plete digestion, rapid acquisition of strength,
with an unusual disposition for active and
cheerful exercise, immediately follow ita use.
As a grand stomachic and general restorative
it ha] no supsrior and no substitute.
