The Capital City.
The establishment or » Southorn Confeder-
y ia do longer a da on), a fancy, but a fact;
d, for ihrtt reason*, if ®ot for more, wo sug-
eat that the city of Atlanta is, par txctUtnci,
e most suitable point within the limits of
is Southern Con felon* J, for the loeatioo of
_ Capitol and olhe} public buildings :
1. In point of Acctssitairy, AUaota »*
▼ailed in the Slava States, being located at
• junction of rotra great leading Railway
es, cjnnectiug thecity, by IheGsorgia Road,
the East, with Aagusta, Charleston, Coin m-
l, Wilmington, Raleigh, Petersburg, Riek.
>nd, Norfolk, and Washington Oiiy; by the
aeon A Western Road, on the South Bash
neoting Atlanta direat with Macno, Sevan,
sh. and Columbus ; on the South, by the At-
ota A West Point Road, connecting direct
th Montgomery, Alabama, Onlnmbus, Goor-
,, and Pensacola! and, by U>a Western A
tlentic Road, connacting direct with Knox-
ill®, Lynchburg, Richmond, Alexandria, the
rginia Springs: also, Chattanooga and Nssh-
ille Tennessee, Louisville and Lexington,
tucky, and, likewise, with Huntsville,
nphis, Jackson, Mississippi, Mobile, and
ew Orleans.
2. In point of i-sxTBAUvr, Atlanta cannot be
ualled, much inor# excelled, by any city or
Hinge in the Cotton States. Atlanta has been
roperly styled the “Oat# City," for the reae-
thst she is the great center and thorough-
of inter communication between the North
,nd South.
A casual examination of the Geography of
he Sieve States will demonstrate the uuequsl-
-entrality of Atlanta.
In point of Kn^LTaroLxass and salubrity
climate. Atlanta rv without a competitor in
Seceding States. Having an elevation
bove the level of the sea exceeding that of
ny other point (with tho exception of Mari*
tta) between Charleston and the Tennessee
T. Epidemlceof erery kind are unknown
Atlanta and the adjaoent country. Oases of
oleraand yellow fever bave never Occurred,
ir could such exist in the pure mountain at-
ospheraof Atlanta.
Atlanta has as pure and as delioioua free
ne water ss cau be found on the face of the
;obe. B sides, she has a bold and never- fail-
tg chalybeata spring, possessing great r*cu-
cativo powers, whieh baa already dcue much
restoring the health of those exhaust-
and enervated by diseases incident to ex-
me latitudes. Atlanta is already a retreat
tbs low landers, in quest of health, plets-
and tbe freedom from disease and exces-
o heat. In her climAte, persona are secure
ra malaria, having no cause to quit her
iceful limits for a more healthful and pleas-
it atmosphere.
a a provision mahkkt, Atlanta has advan-
auperiorto any city in tbe Cotton States,
■a and except New Orleans. Being situated
the Southern tsnmnua of the State Road, and
(y one hundred and thirty-eight miles dii-
from the great granary of Tennessee, her
•le are enabled to live more plentifully and
•ply than any of her sister cities; and hav-
direet and daily commanicatioa with
.rleston and Savanoab, sea fish, oysters,
the tropical fruits, are ouly adjuncts to
comforts.
aUrial for the conslructisn of ths Capitol
other public buildings of a grsat Southern
ifederacy, lie in close proximity, of a supe-
quality, and totally inexhaustabla. Tbe
me or Granite Mountain, fourteen miles dis-
t, immediately upon the Georgia Railroad,
furnish material enough (and that of ex
quality) to construct the public buildings
thousaud Southern Confederacies. Iu ad-
n to the proximity of Atlanta to inexhaust-
beds of granite, this city is only about
hundred aud fifty miles distant, by rail -
from the marble quarries of East Ten-
, from Whieh the beautifill dappled mar
es procured for the now wings of tbe
xt Washington city, and broughtthrough
' geveesary toslaborte farther upon the
ges and suitableness of Atlanta as the
r place for the location of the Cgpilol and
f buildings of the Southern Confederacy,
nly ask that tbs Committee on ths locs-
pf ths Capitol buildings will examine At-
, her surroundirgs and facilities.
