7^ THIt JUYINtt BROTHER.
(me evening, m ho lay quietly with closed
eyes, aud appeared to alcep, his lifter lit
down hf hlnrld., thinking »».r lh« |M, and
annui£ bersclf for the future. All J»cr dieap-
paUUed hope* concerning him lay wilbered
before Leg, and aa sh* regarded »hen a haa*J
High euoaped her.
“ Is that you, Lucv I” aokod Arthur.
She started up ana went 4a Wee.
“ I thought you VM asl«fP» deqr,” said she.
“ No, I wee looking al>6u. ! “Was thinking
hew anxieue yow have- been, etw slwoe 1 can
remember, tret, to hate me good, then, to see
me wise. And now you need not feel grieved
that x hsrw out had ths education that you
meant I should bars. For I am going to a
fiur better sebool than even you ever asked for
ii^a. Christ, himself, will teach me. I shall
ieurn of angels, and of apostles, and of those
Kreat and good men who are saints in heaven.
And f want you to know, beoause U will com
fort yow when l am gene, that yon showed too
the way there. You went first, and I followed,
i did not think so very atoeh of what my fath
er and mother said. I thought they were old
aed tired of life, and liked religion because it
fell In with their matured tastes. Hat I oould
not think that of you. 1 knew, when you ur
ged io« to go to Christ, that He must be a
friend for the young loo.”
•' I wouldn’t talk any more now, dear Arth
ur,” said Lucy, gently.
“ No, it does me good, I want to kear you
nay that you are glad for me that I am going
nway from this world. And, Lucy, taka care
of poor mother! Comfort her when I am
gone. And Hatty too ; I think a great deal
of her, which I would tell you if I were not
ho weak. You must lead them all to Jesus.—
Mother will help you ; Jesus himself will help
you.”
“ I’m afraid to let you talk any more, dear
Arthur,” said Lucy, v ‘ Ilore to hear you; but
1 know H tires you.”
•• No, it does me good. I want to say one
thing more, because it may help to comfort
you when I uni gone. Aud 1 may uot have
an other time ho good as this.” He restad a
few moments in silence, then said: “ I have
been thinking of thnr day we went to the top
of Mount Prospect,*iu II , together, you
know 1 wont first, and how tired I was—the
sun was hot, and the hillside so fief p. While
1 was going up, I kept pitying you, who were
tar behind, to think you had to climb all the
hard rough path, in tho heat And over the
stones, lint when l got to the top and sut
down there, saw the beautiful view, that paid
f >r all thu trouble, that i left oif feeling aux*
ioits about you. 1 slid to myself: “She'll
soon he here: it isn’t far ; aud she'll forget
her fatigue when site sees what I see.”
He paused again to rest. Lucy fanned him
gently, and moistened his lips. After a time
he began again:
“Just so it seems to me, when I look back
now from the place I'm in. I should feel sor
ry—yes, I should be distressed to sec you
climbiug up, and climbing up, and getting
hurt in the rough places, and faint in the
heat ; but I look down, and it’s only a little
way; you're almost here; and when you get
here, you won’t oven remember how you got
here ; you’ll have enough to do looking at the
beautiful view. You’ll think you were a min
ute in coming ; you'll forget what hard work
it was toiling up. Have I made it plain ?—
Do you understand ? For I’m almost there;
1 shan't be able to elay much more.” He fell
back, exhausted, upon his pillows.
Lucy went quickly out aud called her moth
er. Arthur had fainted ; it was long before
they could restore him. When at last he
opened his eyes, hesmiled upou them and
said: “ I thought I was almost there!”
These were his last dying thoughts; he
waa never again able to converse, save iu
whispered sentences. Orowing weaker every
day, and not inclining to talk, he lay quietly
listoning to hybns and Bible words; some
times making a simple, child-like remark
about going to Christ’s school, and then relap
sing into silence again. Poor Hatty, gentle
and thoughtful now, hung over him day and
night, secretly reproaching herself and be
wailing her indiscretion ; yet solaced by ma
ny a loving word and caress from the happy
dying boy.
At last, with a band of his beloved Lucy in
one of his, and that of Hatty in the other,
Arthur entered fearlessly into the valley of the
shadow of death; and they who had known his
life doubted not that when tho sisterly grasp
was detached from his, angels camo and en
tered into their places, and guided him on
ward to a belter country, and into the enjoy-
ment of eternal felicity.—The Flower of the
Family.

Conitipation or Costivt&tw.
No one of tb* “many ills flesh is heir to“i«
so prevalent, so little understood, and so mueh
neglected as Cosliveness. Often originating in
carelessnesa, or sedentary habits, it is regarded
as a slight disorder of too little consequence to
excite anxiety, while in reality It is the pre.
cursor and companion of many of ths most
fatal and dangerous diseases, and, uoless early
eradicated, it will bring tbe su/lerer to an un
timely grave. Among the lighter evils of which
costiveness is the usual attendant, are Head
ache, Colic, Rheumatism, Foul Breath, Pilas
and others of like nature, while » long train of
frightful diseases, such as Malignant Fevers,
Abcesses, Dysentery. Diarrhaia, Dyppeptia
Apoplexy, Epilensy, Paralysia, Hysteria, Hy
pochondriasis, Melancholy and Insanity, 6nt
indicate their presence in th^ system by this
alarming symptom. Not unfrequenOy the dis
eases named originate in Constipation, bat
take ou an independent existence, unless lbs
cause is eradicated in an early stage. From all
these ccn si derations it follows that the disorder
should receive immediate attention whenever
it occur*, and no parson should neglect to get
a box of Cephslio nils on the first sppesrsnes
of tb* complaint, as their timely use will expel
the insidious anproftpjtegof digpaif apd dp*tfP/
this dangerous foe fo human life.
Gebat Discotkby.—Amor.g the most impor
tant of all the great medical discoveries of this
age may be considered the system of vsreina-
ti< n for protection from 8m*ll Pox, tb* Cepha
lic Pill for relief of Headache, and tbe use of
Quinine for the prevention of Fevers, either
of which is a sure specific, whose benefits will
be experienced by sufiering humanity long af
