Her sister, who was bit at the seme time, manifested no symp* toms of the disease until 8unday evening, when the was violently attacked, and died on Monday night. She was about twelve years of age. As the Lancaster Exprees truly remarks, two sueh lives are worth more then all tha whelping core in the world. Curious Will Cask ix New York.—The will of the late Wm. Merchant, of New York, who left properly to tbo amount of $100,000, was to have been proved on Tuesday in the Surrogate’s Court but was postponed on ao- count of the absence of couosel. It is under* stood that, by the provisions of (he will, the sum of $20,000 is left to a Miss Greenwood, and $80,000, or the balance of tha estate, to Miss Charlotte A. Lute. Neither of these la* dies was related to deceased* but it is said that the latter was to have been married to him. A Rival or Blordih.—The Cynthiana News says that Charles Alford, a worthy young gen tleman and a native of Kentucky, recently walked a rope stretched from the court-house cupola to the Harrison Hotel, at a height of about 05 to 70 feet. He performed this fear ful feat with as much esse and grace aa if he had been dancing a quadrille. He stood on his head on the rope, and walked backwards. He can do anything that Blondin dare do.— lie will perform in Lexington, Frankfort, and Louisville at an early day. A Runaway Slave Captured.—The Uar rodsburg Press says that a negro boy, the slave of Mr. Rucker, formerly of Mercer coun ty and who now lives in Missouri, was cap* Cured on Monday Iasi by Issae Vanarsdall.— He has been hiding about Ilarrodsburg for over four years, .snd a reward of $300 offer ed for him. lie is now in the Mercer county jail, auhject to the erder of his master. Good Temper.—Good temper is the philos ophy of the heart—a gem of the treasury within—whose rays are refieoted oa all out ward objects; a perpetual sunshine, imparting warmth, light and life to all within the spheres of its vast influence. Female lxcoim8TC|j)OB.—St. Justin, in spesking of the sibyls, says : “These women often give utterance to grand and noble truths ; but when the instinct which had guided them grew dormant, they no longer retain any re collection of the words they had spoken.” No Matter Now !—A parly of belated gentlemen, about a certain hour, began to think of home, and their wives’ displeasure, and urged a departure. ** Never mind,” said one of the guests, “fifteen minutes will make no difference; my wife ia as mad now as she can be.” Government Affairs.—The Cabinet was in session for about two hours yesterday, but what was before them has not as yet transpir* ed. Tha “knowing ones” oonjecture, howev er, that it was called together for the purpose of deliberating upon intelligence of an impor tant oharaoter recoived from Washington. All tha indications are that tha issue of peace or war will soon be made. Every preparation ie being made bare for a conflict of arms, and the alternative will not take as unawares.— There was unusnal activity in the War De partment, especially* yesterday. Blsek Re publican duplicity is no looker of any avail. Their motives are being divined by the far sighted statesman into whose hands the desti ny of this infant Republio is committed, and force will be met with force.—Montgomery Advertiser, 0th. Letters or Marque and Reprisal.—We have pretty good authority to announce that so soon te Mr. Lincoln shall give unmistakable evidence of coercion against the Southern Stales, the Southern Confederacy will, at once, grant letters of marque and reprisal. Wishing well to our merchants, we advise them, there fore, to carefully wateh the signs of the times. The game of war is one thet two cen play at, and those capitalists who have furnished the government with money to inaugurate a war against the South, may find out* ere they are aware* that they have placed a knife in the hands of an enemy to cut their own throats.— N. Y. Day Book, bth. Distinguished Volunteers.—In addition to the distinguised sx-Senator of Texas, Hon. Louis T. Wigfall, who It new on duty at Cas tle Pinekaey, Ex-Governor Means, Hon.
