K rot her Jonathan arose from bis seat, in tbs nidai pf biQfonsaiul daughters, aod comnien- ced their introduotlcn as follows : My friend*, 1 am happy to see you and will take pleasure introducing these boy* and girls to jour acquaintance. On mj right here, with a mature and thoughtful countenance, is mj daughter Massachusetts. This jouqg wo man, on mj left is toy oldest daughter,Virgiaia. 8he was a rerj interesting child when joung, and I set great store bj her, and gare her (be best out-fit of all mj daughters. Next, on tho other tide,' is New York, measuring two or tfatee tnefcee above the others. Opposite, and next to Virginia, is my se cond daughter Pennsjlvania, a large matron* Ij young ladj, with demure eounteasooe, dressed in drab. She has always been a mo dest and retiring girl, with a serene end peaceful disposition. The third on my right is Connecticut, a pro per and promising youth, and greatly respec ted fur steady habile from childhood. A1 though rather below the medium height, and narrow across the shoulders, there is a well developed head with a good share of the in ventive organs. Direoily opposite is my third daughter, Ma ryland. She isn't quite so matronly in her carriage and'person as her oldest slater, and more taciturn, but she is a good girl though I say it. The fourth iu the line is New Jersey. Shortish, broad shouldered, with a squareness of forehead, and a little flow iu movement, but euro and trurty» ami gets off a groat deal of work in the course of the year Opposite New Jearey is her little sister Khode Island. Although of small statue, she has a busy mind and makes a swart little wc- iuau in the family. The fifth, then, in the high chair, is Delaware, a little stinted iu growth, when an infant, by the smallness of her cradle. Still, though but four fee: six, she can do the work of a full grown person, aod is quite a favorite in the family, both for size and disposition. Over against Deleware is North Carolina, a discreet and dutiful maiden, with dark hair and somewhat orange complexion. Although less talkative than her sister below, she pos sesses* as much practical sense and a9 many amiable qualities. The sixth of my children, is my son, New Hampshire, a steady, sober lad, famous for blasting and splitting granite rocks for our buildings. He ha9 a clear, frank and honest countenance. Opposite is our brilliaut. and rather showy sister South Carolina. Sho is gifted with great conversational powers, quick and smart at repartee, and is sometimes rallied for setting herself up as the belle of the circle. Sho is fond of being admired, and likes to have her own way, Tho next, in order of age, is my son Ver mont, truly a character. His sharp features, shaded by long /lark hair, are full of shrewd and ready sagacity. lie is found of moun tain life, is industrious, and makes a good liv ing out of wool and maple sugar. For the su gar be has peculiar faocy. Next, on the other sides is Georgia, as hand some a woman as ever wore a cotton dress.— She is blonde, with a full bust aod fine open countenence. She is quick in her conversa tion, and the same In her actions, but mea well. All these thirteen were borne before the year 177G. The rest, since that time; and what ie somewhat worth relating, although not remarkable, some of them have already out grown the elder portion of the family. There is Kentuoky. stalwart and Cromwell looking, a kind of Nimrod in the family, and boasts of the best cattle in the world. Iu the act of bunting he can’t be beaten, and is a good shot. Opposite, is a sister next in age. Tennes- see, a tall, wall behaved yonng women, with matronly air, ahe shows well in society, and talks by the book. Then comes my broad- breasted eon Ohio. He went oat with hie axe on hie shoulders, felled the forests trees and made at good a farm as ever lay out doors.— He is now engaged in tilling it and in doing other little jobs. On the other aide is Florida, a bright girl with sunny hair. 8he grew very slowly when a ohild, and we thought once it would be a hard ohaace to raise her ; but she ie coming on, and promises to be a likely and useful wo roan. Then'comes Illinois, the tallest of the whole, and strong at well as tall. She is beginaing to make a noise in the world. Then Missouri on the other side, Is a ruddy, fair-looking young woman, and much given to boating excursions on the rivers. She manages the rodder pretty well, and will make her way to success. Next is Michigan, a little pale and thin, with fever and ague ; living in a swampy sec* ties of the farm, suffering a good deal at first, but wow begins to pick up a little, and promi- see to be likely and long loved. Indiana ie the next daughter in the line, and live* neighbor lo my son. Ohio, on one aide, and my daughter,; Illinois, on the other. She is a young woman of sterling qualities, though unpretending in her dress and deportment. Nettle Wisconsin, not yet fifteen, bat large *nd|BtroBg of her age; ehe hat a pleasant turn of mind and promises well. Next la Louisiana. 8ha had a French nnrae and teacher from her Infancy, and speak* that language fluently, and still retains many Frenoh airs and expressions. Her dress is a la mod* and hsrstsp stately and graceful. Then en ewe tide we have Iowa, Minnesota, adff the twin-sister* Kansas aid Orsgon; and ths ether, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas 1 California.
