To ■tba extent that it done cripple commerce, it will inflict twe blows on Northern interests to on* oo Soul barn. Tbs South have very few •hips, except privateers, to be blockaded. The North has huodreds of them, whose sole em« ploy meat has been in the coastwise and South ern carrying trade. Wbat tbe 8cuth really wants, not contraband of war, aha oan get frem Eurepa in Europeen vessels, for the Southern Confederacy has proclaimed tbe doc* trine, and European nations will insist upon it. Free ships make free goods. The block ade, to tbe extent that it i« effectual at all, will hurt tbe owners of Northern abips, not Southern ships. Tbe former may, in part, raapect tbe blookad* declared—the latter will evade it whenever end wherever he can. Eu ropean, and indeed all foreign nations will soon see that the pretense of a blockade it but a farce and a failure, and will treat it with oontempt. They will deride it, disregard it, and defy it. If tbe Government at Washing ton gets at all obstreperous about it, the ap pearance of a few first class British, French, Russian and 8panish war vessels upon our coast will be an effective sedative. This dec laration of a blockade may, and not improba bly will end in briogingdown upon Old Abe's Government a war with England or France. Tbe former might find muoh ia her commer cial sod maoufaci bring inivreff# to dictate tbe expediency of a war with the Northern Con federacy. It is eertainly to ths advantage of England to promote (he prosperity of the Southern Confederacy, which is to be her best custom er, and to cripple the power ef the Norib, which baa been her most formidable rival, and would have so continued but fur tbe disrup tion. Besides the enumerated harbors upon the Southern ooast, there ere enumerable obscure inlets end entrances, which will afford conve nient retreats for privateers with their priies in esse of pursuit, and facilities for trade to peaoeable merchantmen of all countries, wbo do not stand in awe of Old Abe's proclama tions.— Constitutionalist. Brotherly JLove. The Indianians won’t let the people of Ken tucky have n pound of butter, a barrel of flour, a duxen of eggs from the north side of the ri ver, though they are starving for tbe want of them. A few days ago a rumor got into circulation that there was a negro insurrection in Owen county, in this State, and forthwith a couple of companion of Indiana vclunteeers potted off to Cincinnati, got arms and amunition, and hastened down to Warsaw “to assist in quel' ling tbe insurrection.” This looks suspicious It is suspicious.— No help was needed from tbe North. Nons would have been needed if there bad really been an insurrection. None bad been applied for. And yet wen wbo would starve us if they oould, hastily fly lo arms, and all unbidden come to protect our lives, our homes, and our properly! It gives color to surmise that tbe report was put in circulation in order to get an Cl ouse for just such a movement as this. Two companies of abolition soldiers is true, are not very dangerous; but if two compa nies may cotnc under.such circumstances, why aot two regiments on a pretext equally as bald? And if two regiments, what objection could he made if ten thousand men should be (brown across the Ohio at Cincinnati to 14 protect” the people of Covington and Newport 7 This affection ia so strangely manifested as to stcifn suspicion. If men wont sell us what thsy have to dis pose of and what we want, because it will contribute to our comfort or is supposed to be necessary to our support, it is scarcely reasonable to suppose that they would peril their lives in defense of our property or peo ple. Tbe people of Kentucky need not the help of Indiana aoldiers to protect themselves or (heir property. Tbsy don’t want Indiana sol diers to thrust themselves on such pretexes and under such circumstances.—Louisville Courier. The *- penal et goods sold has been immense; arri vals per Railroed have been fair, and with tba exception of Corn, we will oommeaee lb# en suing week under as fair auspice* •• we did this. Prices remain unchanged. Flour is more active than usual, nod tbe general demand la very good, for borne consumption. Mnay, an ticipating a scarcity, have bought larger than ordinarily, which aooounta for the amounts sold and tdvsnce in pr ees. Grain cannot bold at prsasot prices more than twentv days, for the reason that the growing crop will be brought Into use, in some degree, by that time. Bac< n will suffer no decrease, for holders era very firm, and no necessity for selling 1e man ifest. The threatened difficulty of procuring any more, induces many dealers to pul fancy prices upon their goods, which will at least keep them unsold at present, and there is no doubt but that ws will have a fair reserve stock of this staple. Flour is selling st fair prices, and has fluctu ated less than any article of Produce. Stocks have been large, and demand steady, without any extra calls; therefore, while large lots have been sold, there has been no perceptible advance. The set prices fair. We learn, with pleasure, that several of our prominent Dry Goods and Clothing dealers are about leaving lor Europe; epd now that tb* action of tbe British Parliament ia known to be a determination to protect their commerce and open the advertised blockade, we may look with confidence for next aeaaon's goods fresh and direot from the manufactories. Every arrangement for profitable and ami cable relations with Foreign Governments are being established through agents and mer chants, and every assurance has been received that our overtures will be met half-way. Already the New York papers teem with arti cles deprecating tbe tone of the English press, and looking with distrust upon tbe able letters of Mr. Russell to tbe Loudon 44 Times,” not liking the impartial manner in which he des cribes tbe present state of affairs. All we hope or ask of any writer is that he pictures things as they are—extenuating nothing, nor aetiing aught down in malice. The correspondence of the Northern papers ere a tissue of lies from beginning to end, in most instance*, and they are deceiving their own rearers in regard to financial, commercial and all other points. The articles of Mr Rus sell are viewed with astonishment by those who live North, and they are beginning to be lieve that there are more rebels than thoy magined : and instead of a few disaffected spirits, the entire people have arisen in their might. England, and every other power see the ad vantage to be derived from amicab'e c *nimer cial relations with the8outh.
