Star Spangled Banner.
Messrs. Editors: I have aeen and heard
various lamentations over the prospect of the
repudiation of thie song; particularly the air,
which ie enppoeed to have been composed for
it. I beg to dispel the illusion. Very early
in life, 1 took a fancy to mneic; and, among
my father’s books, published, I think, before
the Revolution, and certainly before the “ Star
Spangled Banner” wae written, wee one of
aongs, with accompanying music, pain tad in
London. From it, I learned to play on the
flute ihe air to which the “Star Spangled Ban
ner” was adapted, and send yon one verse of
the song. Seeing that tha Yankees steal ev
erything else, it is not surprising that they
have stolen mueio. For myeelf, I have no hes
itation in tinging the air to the original tong;
which, now that the "Star Spangled Banner”
ie only emblematical of Black Republican mur
der and robbery, ie a far more pious offering to
the God of music then anything which re
minds us of the desecration of the once hon
ored, but now forever cursed National flag:

Arrest of n Very Auspicious Person.
The following facte we get from a gentle
man entirely reliable: It seems that Capt.
Murray Mason, lata of tho United States Na
vy, now of the Virginia Navy, on Friday last,
in Warrenton, overbearing an unusual profea
■ion of friendship, in hie judgment, towards
our President, Jefferson Davie, and Gen. Bon
ham, on the part of a foreigner, he immedi-
ately creased the street for further (nfonancion.
Eg discovered a person in uniform Calking
loudly and promiscuously. His duty, as an
offioer, induced him to ask the Chairman of
tho Vigilanoo Committee to make tome inqui
ries into the antecedents of the man, and, up
on bis (Capt. Mason’s) auggeston, the individ
ual wae taken In a room and examined; the
result was a guard was placed over his room
for the night. In the morning he was permit
ted to proceed to Richmond uuder an escort.
Bat, in order to eecure him, Capt. Maaon tel
egraphed to Gov. Letoher that thie person was
on the train from Warrenton to tbit oily.—
Capt. Mason arrived here yesterday, and im
mediately made inquiries to know if this per
son, who gave his name in Warrenton aa Am
brose Lewis, C. 8. A , had been arrested
agreeably to hia dispatch to the Governor.—
Having ascertained that he wae yet at large,
Capt. Maaon immediately took neceaeary steps
to ascertain if he was yet in this oily. Hap
pily, meeting on tho street, Capt. Meson at
one# had him arresttd, and ho is now in jail
awaiting tha orders of tho War_Dopartmont.
