The Meath of Battles*
June appears to be a favorite seison of the
God of War. Many of tho most celebrated
battles of tho world's history have boon fought
during Us long days and hot periods. Bun
ker Hill, the first pitched battle of tho Ameri-
oan Revolution, was fought on tho 17th of
Juno, 1775. Waterloo, tho great engagement
which terminated the wars of Napoleon was
fought on tho 16th of June, 1815. Napoleon
gained two of bis most decisive and famous
viotories on the 14ih of Juno, viz: that of
Marengo, over tho Austrains, in 1800, and
Fricdload, over tho Russians, iu 1807. Tbs
groat battle of Solferino, wbiob finally crush
cd tho power of Austria in Italy, was fought
by Napoleon and Francis Joseph on tho 24th
of Juno, I860. One of tho most bloody and
desperate attacks made upon Sebastopol was
made by the English and Frenoh on the Mala-
koff, on tho 18th of June, 1855, in which they
were defeated with severe loss. Tho battle
of Monmouth, of the American Revolution,
distinguished by the bad conduct of Genera)
Lea, who had command of a portion of our
foroos on thnt occasion, was fought on the in-
tensely hot day of June 18, 1778. To these,
Which are but few of June’s sanguinary me
mentoes, we add the chronicle of the bloody
engagement at Bethel, Virgioia, whore more
than one hundred Federal troops were killed
and twiee the number wounded. And this it
only the commencement.
Ohio Hard Up row Money.—The present
condition of Ohio, financially, islkussel forth
in (bo Columbus 41 Crisis” of thutOth :
When the Legislature auihorizafGo*. Den
son to borrow three millions ^dollars, it
woo supposed that the Ohio banks Irould fly to
relief of hsr Stats, her patriotic Soldiers and
tbs nation whoso existence was to be tested
by blood. No men were S3 wild and devilish
in erying traitor—no party now—all oountry—
life, properly, everything must be put at the
service of the country 2
Now what have we witnessed 7 The Gov
ernor made calls, proclamations, orders; and
what he oould not do Gen. Carrington was on
hand to do for him—the Legislature passed
laws—tho people rushed to arms by thousands,
and nil wont on swift as the running tide.—
At last tbo bonds wars ready and the money
was oallod for. The Ohio bankers met here
last wesk—entered into deep and solemn con
sultation and subscribed thret hundred thou-
$and dollart 1 Not one million—not two mil
lions—not three millions 2 Now what is to be
dons? Who call f Where is Gov. Dennison
to got money to pay tho debts hourly press
ing on tho Stale Treasury 7 Who are now
traitors 7 Who art aiding the enemy by re
futing to aid our friends 7 Jeff Dsvis can on
ly make an effort to kill our gallant soldiers,
but the bankers would starve them to death.
Tbomia no bumbng in this—nobody but the
bankers could buy these bonds. We all know
that. If they refuse—if their patriotism oozes
out in a word—thenw's are baukrulp indeed
and Gov. Dennison cannot pay.

Charlkbton, Jane 17.—A batch of late New
York papers have been received here, affording
a most refreshing variety. They had heard of
the battle of Bethel Church, and ,4 take on’’
dreadfully over the reeult.
The Times says: ‘General Butler has no
prudence, and General Pieree no courage, and
the sooner this brace of Massachusetts barris
ters are dismissed to their pleadings the better.
Lives are too valuable to bo squandered to con
vert political hecks into heroes*”
The Tribune says; “The war should be
stopped, and the Southern Confederacy reoog-
nized, if we can’t do any better”
The Herald condemns the mistakes by which
the Yankee troops fired on each other, and says
the officers ought to be cashiered.
The New York papers generally acknowl
edge they were badly whiped.
Butler has declared his lotentiou to have
satisfaction, aud whip the rebels within twen
ty-four hours.
