Atlanta, June 15. Washjmqvom, June IE.—A skirmish took pUoe yesterday between ike Federal and Con federate troops at Vienna, on the London k Hampshire Railroad. Aa official report to Gea. Soott says: " Oa tuning Ike eurve within r quarter of a mile of Viooaa we were fired open from masked batteries, with shells, shot and graps, killing aad wounding tome men oa the plat form oara. The trail was stopped oa account of injury to the maobinery whioh could not be repaired. We abandoned the train and took to the woods, finding the baUerice sup ported by 1,500 South Carolinians. We fell back, throwing ont skirmishers on both flanks snd retired, leaving five killed, five wounded and flva missing. Ws abandoned many haversacks, blankets, and a ftw mus kets. (Signod) “ ROB’T C. SCHENCK, “ Brig. Gen. 1st Ohio Reg." Among tbs killed is tbs Editor of the Cleve land Herald. [The London A Hampshire Railroad runs from Alexandria ap the Potomac, via Leesbu- ry, Loudon county, through the Southern por tion of Jefferson county, on to Winchester, and through Hampshire county, connecting with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Wa do not know the exact locality of Vienna.—Edi. Con federacy.] It is positively asserted that Hon. L. T. Wig- fall visited this city disguised as a cattle drivsr. The War Department is accepting men by battalions. 8even cars, backed out of Alexandria by one locomotive, passed on without interruption- dropping detachments of soldiers as they went along—till near Vienna, where a man warned them of a battery. They had proceeded but a short distance, when the battery opened a fire directed at the Engine and crippled it. The En gine being behind the train, the Engineer un coupled it, and abandoning the train, rushed away, carrying some dead and wounded men* In leaping from the cars, and while running for timber, they suffered considerably from the tire. It is believed that the Southerners are falling back on Fairfax Court House. The eagngeincnt lasted twenty minutes. Leesburg had not been occupied by Federal ists up to yesterday. A battle occurred in that vicinity yesterday, lasting ten hours. With what loss to the Southerners, is unknown. The re sult, with the Federal loss, is suppressed. Gen. Jackson, (Jate commander at Farper’i Ferry,) is moving to surprise Gen. Cadwallader at Martinsburg, instead of goiug to Winchester. A desperate fight between Vienna and Fairfax Court House is imminent. Telegraphic communication is established be tween this place and the Federalist Head-Quar ters at Falls Church near Alexandria. The move ments of both parties indicate un early action in that vicinity. St. Louis, June 19.—Col Boemstein has been appointed commander of St. Louis and Cole counties. He hae issued a proclamation.— Gen. Lyons has also issued a proclamation. The Democrat learns that an advance guard of Fedoral cavalry en route to Boonville, en countered a considerable force of Missourians stationed on a hill with cannon, commanding the road. Three Federalits were killed. Tbe cavalry were not pursued in their retreat. Missourians are concentrating at Blue Mills, Iowa connty. A regiment is advancing via railroad to Renick, whence they will take the country route towards Boonville. Thirty Missourians attacked the Federalists guarding Dardence Creek bridge. The Republican says, that a soldier in tbe Federal ranks accidentally discharged his gun, whereupon tha whole Company became frightened and commenced firing indiscrimin ately, without orders. The slaughtered citi zens fell in every direction. The firing ceased only when the vicinity was deserted, except by the dead and wounded. Seven were killed some were literally torn to pieces by Minnie balls. The firemen are engaged in washing tha street, which presented the appearance of a slaughter-house floor. Col. Boemstein is constantly sending scout ing parties into the country. Louisville, Jane 39.—T#e thousand Mis sourians are at Boonville, and one thousand on the appetite hank of tbe Missouri River. They have placed artillery, whieh commands the Bfver. Gen. Lyons Is waiting for information, upon whieh to dotermino whether he will advanee by land or by rlvor. Report* from virions souroec render it cer tain that the Virginians are moving westward under Gen. Wise. At Camp Dennison, Ohio, two thousand S months volunteers determined to go home. A gentleman just from St. Louis report* that tho following is oorrect, and believed there that the Missourians at Boonovllle, behind masked batteriee, first decoyed General Lyons from his boats, whieh after terrific fighting, warn sank, and Lyons, with his whole foree, succumbed. An Ordinaoee was pasted authorising tho County Courts to make provision for tho sup port of Soldiers’ families.
