KA880N, First Assistaot Postmaster Qeoersl. Capture of Prise Vessels—Daring; Ex ploit of Maryland Zouaves 1 The Richmond “ Dispatch” of the 2d lost, gives the following particulars of the capture of Federal prise vessels : Lieut. Geo. W. Alexander, of the 1st Reg iment of Maryland Zouaves, reaohed Rich mond on yesterday morning, with forty odd Liaoolnite prisoners of war, oaptured on the Potomac esrly Saturday morning. It appears that the Zouave Regiment has been for some lime past in prooess of formation by Col. R- Thotnas. of Richard, Lieut. Alexander, (Ad jutant) Lieut. P. Gibson, aad others, in Bal timore. A short lime since, Col. Thomas went from Baltimore to Philadelphia in dieguiee nnd pro cured n supply of nrms. Himself and com* rades then conceived the project of captaring the St. Nicholas, a large steamer in the em ploy of the Federal Government, running be tween Baltimore and Washington. The boat started at four o’olock on Friday evening fiom her wharf in Baltimore. Previous thereto Col. Thomas weot aboard with 12 msn—the latter at passengers, end their oommender dressod as a French lady. The veaael got undar way and stopped at Point Lookout, where, according to the plan previously agreed on, Lieut. Alexander, with another detachment of men, oame on board and ae- eured passage for Washington. By aooident (!) Lieut. Alexander went into the cabin of tbo steamer and recognised the French lady (!) aa an old acquaintance from Paris. Both Thomas and Alexander speaking the language fluently, they found no difficulty in maturing their plan of operations. During the conver sation that ensued between the French lady and her acquaintance, instructions wsrs given as to how the party should prooeed. The arms, which had previously been carefully loaded and concealed, were made ready for instant possession. At one o’olock on Satur day morning, the time for striking the blow having arrived, Col. Thomss threw off bis dis guise, apptared in bis uniform, and ordering bis men to do their duty, the steamer in five minutes was a prise to the forces of the Con federate Slates. Tbs Captain and crew sur rendered without striking a blow, and were confined without trouble. They appeared overwhelmed with surpiise. Cept. Geo. N. Hollins, late of the United States Navy, who had gone aboard at Point Lookout, then assumed command of tbs steamer, and ran her into Cone river, expect ing to meet the Tennessee Regiment and jointly oommence further operations against the enemy. The Tennesseeans, however, did not arrive oq the ground till late Suturdaj morning. It was tbr n too late for any de monstration up the river as originally intend ed, and the steamer was headed down the stream. On her passage she captured two •ehocners and one brig, each having a crew of about ten men, who were taken prisoners. One of the vessels was loaded with 8,600 bags of coffee, another with anthrncite oonl, and another with ice. The steamer St. Nioh- olas is a first class boat, 276 fsst long, side wheel. All of the prises wsrs safely towed to the mouth of the Kappahannook, and thence to Fredericksburg. Their value is roughly esti mated at three hundred and seventy five thousand dollars. The captains of the respective vessels, with their crews, including several negroes, are now lodged in the prison depot on Main street, in this city. This is a very beautiful addition to the number of the gallant and succeisful surprises by our brave Southern boye, sinoe the strug gle began. It is but the beginning, we opine, of a oatalogue of daring exploits at sea that will greatly enrage the old ape, and raffle the sweet end amiable dispoeition of old “ Fuss and Feathsrs.” Old French women will be a terror to them both. We very muoh feer that that class of women, and especially those a little unhandaome (for we learn that our lent Captain did not look like a pretty French woman) will be subjected to very rude treat ment by the Linoolnltee, for they will fear all of them are Southern officers in disguise. The other officers associated with Col. Thomas in the achievement, are Lieut. Geo. W. Alexan der, Adjutant, and Lieut. F. Gibson. These three headed the boarding parties in the cap tures.
