“ spank” him too. She says she thought noth
ingof It; that Tarry had always made her
ohildren mind him when they were playing
about his house, and that she cared no more
for it than if he bed keen her brother.
A dey or two after this, she stopped at the
house of out of the Wilson’s on her way to ths
oity, to tall thsm cheat the Utter, when her
little eon Johnny went to the spring where his
oousin, Miss Wilson, was washing, and told
bar that Tom Terry had whipped him. Miss
Wilson came to tha house very engry end ask
ad about it She told hsr how it was. During
that svsning, at Wilson’s house where she was,
aha told the eiroumstanbee over several times
as aaoh of the family would come in and in

She said thsy seemed very mad, but that
thay had an old grndgt against Terry, and
were trying to make her mad at him also, and
gst hsr to mov* off from his land; but she told
them her husband had left her under Terry’s
protection; that ha was kind to her end her
children, and sha would not be influenced by
them.
It nppeare that James Wilton, some three
years ago, sent his children to school to a fe
male relative of Terry’s and refused, from some
cause, to pay Mr. Terry, as her agent, the tui
tfon fee: that at that time he went to Terry’i
house to kill him, but was prevented by his
pistol being exposed and seen by e relative of
Terry’s, who was present end gave him warn-
ing. He has never been satisfied sinoe, end
within the last ten days told Mr. Kennedy he
intended to have satisfaction for ths old soraps
now; that he intended to go up to Terry laugh-
log and knook him down before he could know
he wae mad; and that, if he eonld not do that,
he would go to his house, call him out and
shoot him; and that he intended to have re-
venge some dey. Mr. Kennedy says he advis
ed him not to do so.
Sevsral of Terry’s friends had recently cau
tioned him against ths Wilsons, and told him
of thair threats.
The Wilsons are notoriously bad characters
—always in difficulties—drinking and fight,

men.

Our Jail.
Wa earnestly ask the attention of our ex
cellent Sheriff to the importance of having
tha Jail well guarded, and to nse every pos
sible precaution to pravent tha Wilsons, now
in prison for the murder of Terry, from effect*
ing an escape. We are an advocate of law and
ordar. To satisfy public justice, and to allay
public indignation, the Law must hold a firm
grip.
A Stabbing Affray.
On Saturday afternoon, Henry Kettles and
Henry North had n difficulty, on Marietta
Street, when Nettles stabbed North, cutting
him in several placaa in the back, across his
right eye and face, on the left aide of his nsek,
and through his right wrist. North isoonfined
to his room, but was able to sit up yesterday,
and was thought out of danpr. Nettles is
still at large.
Another.
On yesterdey, A. Sieemore had a fight with
a man named Smith, near Winship's Foundry,
on Marietta Street. Sieemore struck Smith on
the head with e rock and inflicted a danger
ous, if not a fatal, wound. Siseuore had not
been arrested at last accounts.
A Map of the Seat of War.
We cell attention to the card of T. A. Burke,
Esq., of Savannah, in this day's paper. His
map is just whst everybody want* at this time.
Whsn we read of bottles end army movements
without a good idee of the localities where they
take place, it is vary unsatisfactory. A good
map sets all this right.

Mob.lb, August 6.—A naval engagement ec-
ourred on Friday last between e Federal stea
mer and the privateer Nixon, off Mississippi
Sound. The steamer opened fire first, ex
changing shots twenty minutes. Ths steamer
withdrew and the privateer was uninjured.—
This city has gone for Watts (for Governor) by

[Conmaaloatsd.]
Wo understand that the Hon. Wm. H. Stiles,
who recently wont to Virginia as a private in
the Etowah Guards, has bean authorised by
President Davis to raise a regiment in Geor-
gia.
Captains wishing to attach their companies
to such an organisation had batter address him
without delay, at Cartersville,Georgiv—which
wa believe is his postoffice at present. There
will not, we suppose, be any difficulty in pro
euring the necessary arms.
Another Response.
Atlanta, August 5th.
Editors Southern Confederacy:
Dear Sirs: Please communicate to the prop
er authorities, through yonr valuable paper,
that it shell give me pleasure to alleviate the
sufferings of our wounded soldiers by any
means in my powsr, and, to accomplish this,
I will receive two of those gaPant fellows who
fought and bled in defence of our glorious Con
federacy. They shall have every care and at
tention in my family which their case may de
mand, and I shall continue to do so during
this war, and as long as I have anything left
to share with our brave volunteers.
Yours respectfully,
