NEW ORLEANS AND TEXAS RAILROAD
COMPANY.
I 'tHIS cotupaay is now prepared to recoive
proposals tor the Grading, Bridging and
Superstructure of their entire Road, from New
Iberia, on the Bayou Teche, to Orange, on the
Sabine River, one hundred and seventeen
miles-
The road passes through the prairies of Cal
casieu, a region of country perfectly healthy
and abundantly supplied with provisions,
being adjacent to the great stock and grain
growing rogion of Texas; and safe from inva
sion, the coast of the galf being lined by an
impassable marsh.
It ia the only link wanting to connect New
Orleans with the railroad system of Texas,
and thus opening to our whole country one of
the most productive regions cn the continent.
This Company will be prepared to contract
with one or more individuals for the construc
tion of the whole or part of the road, or to
hire from one to two thousand negroes.
Payments will be made in money, and such
proportions of stock as ia usual for each class
of work.
Transportation, provisions and clothing for
all negroes brought on this work, will be fur
nished if desired,
There will be about one million and a half
cubic yards of excavation and embankment,
and about th irty thousand lineal feet of bridg-
in s-
The w&nts of our community require the
completion of this Road in the shortest possi
ble time, aud it will be done. All interested
parties will keep this in mind.
Communications must be addressed to
Col A. M. GENTRY, Preaidont.
Or to E L. HERIOT, Chief Engineer.

The Ladies’ Atlanta Hospital Associaliou
has been organized only about two mouths,
yet duriug this time it has been oue of the
favored agents, under Providence, of doing
much for the comfort and alleviation of the
sufferings of the many thousands of. sick aud
wounded soldiers sent to this point. It has
been with proud and unalloyed salisfactiun,
ihat the members of our Society have been
thus enabled to supply the places of the mo
thers, wives ami sisters of these loved defend
ers of their and our firesides and little ones,
by ministering to them instead of these loved
ones.
We learn that other soldiers are soon to be
sent hither, lo take the places of those who
have been restored to health and returned to
the post of duty, and we doubt not of honor,
if not of glory. It will be the pleasing duty
of the members of this Association to be un
ceasing in their attentions to these when they
arrive, aud to anticipate thoir every want,
until they, too, shall be restored to health.
But while we may rejoioe that our positiou
affords us the high and blessed privilege of
thus serving our country aud doing good, we
are compelled to call upon others who do not
enjoy such opportunity of bestowing personal
attention to the sick and wounded soldiers,
to send to us as much as they can spare of
tke numerous articles needed to add to the
oomfort, nourish and strengthen, as well as
to aid in restoring to health our sick soldiers.*
By order of Mrs. ISAAC WINSHIP,
President Atlanta Hospital Association.
