St. Pliilllp’a Hospital Aid Society,
I am authorized to state, for the information
of our patriotic friends who have thus fur bo
nobly contributed tj our Hospital Stores, that
our need of assistance is as great now as ever.
Several Hospitals still remain in Atlanta, and
there is no prospect of their discontinuance.
B.sides this, Atlanta, from its central posi.
tion, may bo considered a great depot for the
distribution of Hospital goods We have al
ready forwarded large quantities ol stores to
the Hospitals io Columbus, Mlssissippi, and
expect to have frequent demands tnede upon
us from the Weet.
We hope our friends will still favor us with
their contributions, they may be sure that
every article we receive will be pade to help
forward our glorious work of independence.

The Death of Mrs. Lincoln’s Brother.
Amoug the mauy nan.es of those who fell
upon the bloody held of Shiloh, while gal
lantly fighting lor the independence of the
South, we find that of S. B. Todd, brother of
the wife of the Yankee President. If either
Lincoln or his wife had shown themselves to
be possessed of the ordinary sensibilities of
humau nature, we abound not envy their feel
ings when they learn of the death of their
brother at the hands of the Northern merce
naries. We are aware that Lincoln is pro-
fuse in bis ic»td wucu he deems proper to in
dulge in SUCH luxuries. He wept alien Eds
j worth was killed, shed great tears or anguish
over the b- dy of Col. Baker, and sobbed Tor
j >y over the commander of the Monitor; t ut
we do not believe he wifi have oue tear of re
gret to shed when the iuietligence of the
death of the brave Todd reache- him.
Mrs. Lincoln is of such a sy mpain^zsng na
ture that she felt compel.ed to put on mourn
ii g out ot respect to the memory of the hus
band of the Q leen ot E iglaod ; but notwith
standing this, we find her, within a few days
after death had entered bar own household
and Carried away her children, giving a ball
so maguificent iu ail i>a appointments, that
even the Yankees themselves wtrecoustrain-
ed to cry out shame. The President and his
wife turned their hacks upon the graves of
their children, to indulge iu revelry and gay
ely, and we Cannot therefore expect that they
will receive the newe of the death of a broih
er with any other feeling than that of indif
ference That brother has given his lile to
beat back the despotism wtitcn his own broth
er-in law seeks to establish iu the South,
and his blood will cry out from the eanh for
vengeance, until Lincoln like his renowned
ex .tnpler Cam, shall utter in tones of bitter
anguish, " my punishment is greater than 1
can bear. ”—Montgomery Advertiser. April

Tremendous rains have fallen at Corinth,
and land operations are impossible.
The Present Aspect of the W*r.
Everybody, with anxious heart, is strain
ing to catch the first notes of the impending
contest at Yorktown, as well as the renewal
of it in the Mississippi Valley. That fight
between Beauregard and Buell was not deci
sive—though the Y’ankees were badly worst
ed. It did not amount to a complete victory
—the Y ankee army was not annihilated ; and
as soon as preparations can be made, the
scattered men oan be collected and reorgua-
iied, with reinforcements from Fremont and
perhaps others, the contest there will be re
newed, at some point and in some way. Uu-
authenticated reports that the enemy was go
ing down the Mississippi river, have reaehtd
us. We have not seen any verification of
them ; if it be true, we fear for Fort Pillow
and Memphis, unless our new gunboats can
ga up and clean out the river.
McClellan delays the attack at Yorktown,
as he did before our army at CentrcviHe.
This is for some purpose—it is to gain soc^e
further advantage before striking a brnw.
He is ea d to be approacning inco by inch, as
tie did last fall, and tortifj (t.g every step of
the v^ay, in order to h ive "a rat hoie to run
back into,” as our army correspondent wri
ting from Manassas last fall, forcibly re
marked.
At these two points—Yorktown and the
Mississippi Valley—the Y'aokees are ^oucen
(rating immense fqj^ei. We also are con
centratieg large armies to meet them —wh:-.-
'her large enough and sufficiently supplied
with ali the means and appliances of war to
cope with the enemv. dvl know—the
