Riohmosd, May 31.—A violent rain and

There was a skirmish yesterday on the

progressing on the Williamsburg road, uear

by tbe rain last evening. No report of it yet

Kins Wheat.
Through the politeness of Charlie Elyea,
Lsq., conductor on the Macon & Western
Road, we have been presented with a hand
ful of fine heads of wheat, from the farm of
Thomas Crawford, Esq , of Fayette county.
It is fall and heavily grained, and is so
nearly ripe that Mr. Crawford will commence
reaping it Monday morning. The stalks are
entirely free from rust, though the blades
euffered with mildew. It has no resemblance
of starvation Crawford has 100 acres
of this fine wheat, from which *hie expects a
large yield. We learn that be is one of the
best farmers in Fayette.

period than one quarter give Post-masters a
great deal ot trouble in making out their re

enormously. If each of our present Daily

quarterly, it would require us to make, in giv

mail-bouks, 46,000 entries during the year, or
4,o00 each month. This portion of the busi
