FROM OUR SECOND EDITION OF YESTERDAY
Due Big Scare. t
It scorns that tho iron-clad gunboat Idinn-
°la, which tho intrepidity of onr Western he
roes had wrested from the Yankees, haB beeu
lost to us by a cute Yankeo trick. Reference
to tliti proper dispatch in our columns this
morning will show that the Y’ankees convert
ed an old flat-bottomed boat into a huge soar-
crow, which passed Vicksburg and frightened
our pcoplo out of their proprieties. The Indi
amda was blown up to save hor guns from
falling into file bands of tho enemy on hoard
the supposed monster, and the Queen of tho
West fled ingloriously, thinking, no doubt,
sfie bad made a narrow, but most fortunate
csca|ie from the olaws and teeth of the now,
unheard-of, indosoribable and terrible mon
ster. '
foWcll, perhaps most persons would have done
the same thing—and perhaps not; we can’t
say. The dispatch says it is a good joke. It
may be a good ono for tho Yankees, but it
api>ears to us to bo quite a serious ono.
Richmond, March 6.—Tho N. Y. Herald of
the 3d says the Confoderate States steamer
Florida captured and burnt tho ship Jaoob
Bell, from China for New York, with COO tons
of merchandise. Tho cargo was va*ued at
$1,800,000.
SECOND DIBPATCn.
The Impressment bill was further discussed
in the Senate, and an amendment adopted pro
viiling for tho appointment by. tbo President
of three commissioners to each State, who
shall divide the State into one or more Ap
praisement Districts, and proceed to fix the
price or value, to he paid to the owners of ar
ticles impressed for the use of tho army from
time to time, lo he revised at least once iu
every 60 days.
THIRD DISPATCH.
The Enquirer has the Washington Chronicle
of tho 3d. Tho government is heavy loser by
tho destruction of the Jacob Bell, as tlie dn
ties on her cargo would have amounted to
$175,000.
Judge Barnard of New York instiucted the
Grand Jury to find bills of iudiclmont against
parties implicated in arbitrary arrests.
Commander Porter, in a dispatch to tho
Secretary of the Navy, says: “ I regret to in
form you that tbo Indianola has also fallen
into the hands of the enemy. Tho Webb and
thtoQueon of the West attacked and rammed
her until she surrendered, all of which I can
trace to a non-compliance with my instruc
lions ” «.
Tho l.oudon Times says it is clear that the
Idocbakc was not raised at the lime of the at
lack on the Fideral fleet, and that, there was
not even an intermissson of it. The Post
takes a similar view. Tho Liverpool Post an
nounces the arrival of tho Sumter in tho
Mersey.
Mobile, March 5.—The Jackson Missip
pian says the destruction of tho Indianola was
a most unfortunate and unnecessary affair
The turretted monster proved to bo a flat
t.oat with sundry fixtures lo create tlie decep
tion. She passed Vicksburg ou Tuesday night.
The officials believing she was a turreted
monster monitor, blew up the Indiajnola, lest
her guns should fall into the hands of the en
emy. The Queen of the West left iu such a

are handsomely printed in two colors—red

On the left band end of the biii is a female

which is printed in biaok heavy letters,

State of Georgia, The large figures “3'’ on
either side of the words “State of Georgia,”
and the word “Three” in large letters cover
ing the m'aiu face of the bill, are printed with

The whole is well executed, and must have
been gotten up in a first-class job printing of

only cheap looking thing in its “getting up.”
We le&r there are some printers in the coun

it is hardly necessary to add that there-is

Yesterday morning Captain (formerly Gen

all the oflicers of his brigade, blanketed, knap-
sacked, rationed, and mostty armed, oh tlieir
way to Savannah. Tboy, however, were much
disappointed when informed by the Govornor
who was here, that they would have to return
and await further orders. They had patri
otically and promptly rallied in response to
*tho call? of Gen. Beauregard and the Gover
nor, and were on hand, ready to go te the
point of danger. We learn, however, that
during the day, the. Governor issued further
-orders to them, based upon some further in
telligence received, to repair at once to Sa
vannah, and they will leave on the Mae jn train
this morning. Wn do not know, but suppose
a similar order is issued to all the militia offi
