Paulding Superior Court, 1 February Term, 1863. J Wo, the Grand Jury, sworn, chosen and eeleoted for the County of Paulding, beg leave to submit the following general Present ments: , . Through tbe proper Committees, we havo examined the various books of the County Of ficers, except that of the Clerk of the Inferior Court, who is absent, and whose office is clos ed, and we find them neatly and correctly kept. We respectfully hut earnestly oall the attention of the Inferior Court to the.bad con dition of the Court House, especially to the leak at the northern chimney, and recommend such repairs as the Court may think neoes- *ary. By reference to the books of the County Treasurer, we find thaF since the last Term of this Court, he has recoived into his hand the sum of $416 25; that he has paid out the the sum of $415, and his commission being $4 35, leaves nothing in his hands. The whole amount of tho Sohool Fund received last year was $1714, deduoting the Ordinary’s commissions, $85 70, left a remainder of $1628 30. Amount paid out to insolvent chil dren is $1084 28, which leaves but $245 32 to be paid teachers by the paronta of solvent children, lacking but twenty-two and a-half per ceent. to be paid by parents. This result is certainly gratifyiog to the people of the county. We recommend that a tax often per cent, be assessed for sohool purposes for the present year. We wonld also call the attention of the ClerkB and ot the Shoriff of this county to the necessity of keeping the doors of the Court House olosed. We notice with pain theshame- ful injuries committed on the building by per sons who are allowed to enter the jury rooms at pleasure. In view of the great scarcity of grain and other articles of food, the exorbitant prices, and tho destitute oondition of a great number of women and children whose husbands and fathers have entered the service of our coun try, wo most urgently recommend to the In ferior Court of this County not to grant any licenses to make or retail any spirituous li quors distilled from grain ol any kind. This prohibition is not only a wise aud wholesome public policy, but is dictated by tho strongest feelings of sympathy for the families of those noble men who have sacrificed every thing in defense of our honor aud our national rights. We would call the attention-of the people ,nfour county.to the brilliant military achieve uiu/its of onr gallant army since the last Term of this Court, and congratulate them upon thej encouraging prospects of our army and coun try-generally. It is true that our enemy has a powerful and well -equipped army in the field, and-that he is threat ning t > bring the horrors of devastating war t«> • ir vi ry doors,' by laying waste our cities i>1-> , ue owl <»l in tho West, but discontent am ..spir. -i. and want of confidence, an* «..r « j i7ur -u. solves all through bis arm. * .i.Naim ern States, while we are (tinted .■.<( . •111101 -With a firm reliance upon the ekitl aud bra very of our soldiers, the justice of our cause, and the assistance of a Divine Providence, we can bat indulge the hope that at no distant day the clouds of war shall be dispelled by the sun of peace, and our sons and brothers and bnsbands be restored to the bosoms of the loved and grateful ones at- home. We tender to His Honor Judge Feather- stone, and to the Solicitor-General, B. D. Tbomasson, our grateful acknowledgments for their kindness and courtesy to thiB body.
