For the Columbian Muueum.
SONNE T.
YIELD pitying heaven, to my prayers yield,
Propitious aid me, while thro’ Irenes below,
.1 track my way the miserable portion wield ;
Ol care ot lorrow, misery and woe :
Oh kind Crr .tor ! hear indulgent hear,
The voice of grief and sorrow’s only child,
‘A’itli piacid eye, Oh view the pearly tear !
Which flows unccaling o’er die viiage v/ild.
jl'.a'l terns in dreams unpitied flow ?
Shallgriefs flow murmur tigs be heard in vain?
■Sure heaven vvithh thing hand, a cure to woe,
Ad mi aiders, and cases agonizing pain :
Yes, Death in ali its robe. # of terror comes !
At once the despot, and the pea fan ts friend ;
Unpeoples palaces and (lately domes,
Kills care and every lublunary woe it ends.
Come thm deflroyer of the human race,
With aim unerring, Hrikethe fatal dart ;
Which alters e’en the lined form’d lace,
And yields a balfom to a throbbing hcatt:
Mar i a’scruel, then to case my pain,
From lile, and all its visionary plcafurcs fly,
I figh’d and whii'per’d-, but alas in vain,
For fate has doom’d me pitiiels to die.
