j£lufCo,
Addrtffcd to the Old Maids and Bachelors,
Poets of this City.
YE bards of modern times,
Let me, a simple Twain address
My flowing verses modeft rhimes—
My fouls delight—my rapture to express,
To praise your geniufe* ;
When reading your mod pleaflng pieces,
Let my muse help me, lclAom cross,
To praise your Poetry, which always pleases,
Those whoYe impartial Never at a loss,
Such noble geniuses—-
To find arhime, to keep good time—
Such harmony fare ne’er was known,
As verses made in this fair town ;
Tho’ fome are Old Maids ; fome, tho’ few,
Are Batchelors—-all poets, all.—
A place like this I never knew
For poets—vastly sweet withall :
Ye pay fine compliments, one to the other—
Kind compliments indeed
Now, I’m a candidate ; I wish no pother.—
Among the number of the feed
Os Mr. o‘Blufl, and other bards
Os modern fame, I’d be cnrol’d—
I seldom swear, I never scold.
I’ll think it very, very hard,
If I'm not ‘mong the noted number
Os your focicty.—l often find
Quite heavy verses, just like lumber,
Compressing on my loaded mind,
Like rafts when rolling down the tide,
Praying and prefling down my pen to Aide.
•Till now, I’ve kept these verses still ;
I vow, I scarce have flcpt
This fortni’t—•—very ill,
They from me, sleep have kept—
X mull let fall a few
And now, this is t’addref*
Your augujlbody (nothing new)
I hope ’twill please you not thelefs,
If I should hope when once ’tis read,
My short Epistle, which to you’s addrefs’d,
That when the lift of poets o’er is read,
My name should then appear among the rest.
