Mttffrs. Powers Cf Seymour ,
YOUR paper cf the 14th instant I
la ft evening received. In reply t 0 t J he
attacks of R Wayne, Sen’r.and Jun'r
1 m uft candidly confefs, 1 an not equal
to them m Billingsgate language, as they
lipt it in with their nativeair, andriou/
lined it ever ft nee. r ”
In anfvver toR. Wayne, fen’r. I per .
leetly agree with htn; in his introdu&o
ry lenience : “ 4 hat the man who has
no character to lose, genu ally attempts
to injure the reputation ol an houeft
man 1 his is exattly his cate, and to
what length he will carry his deviltry
God only knows, unless he is ftom in
his career. He has already brought
forward a young man who has his re
reputation to eitablilh, to certify t 0 ’
Positive lallhood. I hope he will have
lome delicacy, and not lwear to his cer
tificate ; if he does, I fhatl be under the
dilagrceable neceflity of bringing for
ward several very refpeftabie persons to
confute his oath, and thereby convift
hiinof perjury; this would be painful
to the greatest degree, but the defence
ot my reputation w ill demand it. If
therefore, 1 am reduced to that neceffi
t}, W nis I. iiehn, v- ill have no one to
blame, but himfelf and his very good
frtend, R. Wayne, who fays, I am“un
grateful. I wish he would inform the
public, the obligations lam under to
him.-—I know of none. As to detain
ing him cut of a large imn of money, it
is his own fault, be fines, let him aik my
attornies, Meflrs. Clay and Woodruff,
what were the orders { gave them, when
employed to defei and the suit he brought
againk the Executors of the estate of Paul
forchcr, Esq. deceased. My wish is to
bring the suit to as speedy an issue as
pofiibie, and whatever is his just demand
shall be paid as soon as afeertained;
But, as to your unjust demands, Dicky , I
never will pay ! No, not one farthing
more than a Jury will give you, and
whatever they do, I shall be content, as
I am determined to lift your accounts
to the bottom, and lay before your iel
iow citizens such a feene as you little
expert, and which will shew you in your
true colour?, and make you tremble. I
will allow there was no impropriety in
your attempting to get a judgment
against the ellate, had you taken the pro
per steps : But why (my dear friend)
apply to a married woman, when you
could fpcak or write to her husband, or
the Executor who was near you, at any
time ? Gr why done privately, which
are the words of your letter.—l want
every thing done in a public manner, and
it now shall be toyour d’jgrace.
Whoever informed you, I served in a
Refugee Regiment, was like yourfdf,
an infamous liar. I never aid—but if
you will apply in agentleman-iike man
ner, I will let you lee the Commifiion
I had the honor to bear, you will then
know in your future publications, to
what regiment to attach me. You be
gan with Tory —ls you choose, it may
now drop ; if not, I will bring forward
one of your petitions to Sir Henry
Clinton, for which you ought to have
been exalted nine feet from the earth, at
the entrance of the City of Charleston.
You dont call a breach of the peace,
by an officer appointed to keep the peace,-
a mifdemeanc-r against: the State ! I do,
and I make no doubt, the honorable
J u^ge who prdided at your trial, thinks
io too, from the sentence he has pafied
on yor.
As to Richard Wayne, jun’r. I shall
take but little notice of him at present.—-
I lhall leave the public to judge, whe
ther his infamous language deserves an
anlwer.—l mull inform them, his Letter
is filled with lies from beginning to end,
even his n. b.
If your ideas of gambling, Young Dicky,
are so refined, v/hat must your opinion
be of your dearly beloved father, who
was notorious, for keeping a Faro Bank
in Charleston, during his Britijh reign.
As to vour Challenge, I shall inform
the Public, it was wrote in so ungentle
manly a manner, that had I even insult
ed yourfelf, I could not have accepted
it. Had you flood your trial, I would
have printed it, with my answer. I
beiiet e you and your father will fiocere
ly repent, before I have done with
you.
