If anght beneath the sun is to form © lovely
charbeter, in the history of © young woman, it ia
the bweo:, ©ad gentle, ©nd all constraining influ
ence of the love and grace of Christ. If anything
ia to fit woman for her mission, to bless her and
to make her a blessing, it is the great principle©
involved in viral Chriatianity, thoroughly eaub
lished in her gentle nature, and giving law and
icflaen<» to her whole being. Christianity, em
r>o< ied in the heart and lifa, is the great <’*rn-ment
ot tbe female character; and in woman it has
found some of its most transcendent illustrations.
One powerful recommendation of tbe pr ncip*e«
for which we have contended is »hia, that they are
as much aud a- essentially adapted to one cla-a of
society ©»• to another. They impart fin sh »Dd

I bis f ct, wh:cd no one can reasonably deDy,
should lead men young aoneu as have come on
er the control of rig t principles—that is, who
have become disciples of ti e me-k and lowly Je

Biographies which, in every ag«, nave shed lus’re

thev may read of tho-e “holy women who trusted

The Bible is fall oi fine examples of female ex

to the lowliest.
Look a' Miriam, the siAter of Moses, the Deliv

will find an exquisite mode! of fl'ial obedience, and
of oraue* ce unsurpassed in the history of oar race.
Look at the mother of Samson, as yo j hrar her

received a burnt ' ff»ring and a meat offering at
oar han 'a, neithar would he have sheweO as ad
these tbii gs, nor would he at this time have told
such thing'? a*these.”—(Judges xiil. 28.)and learn
the g r eat and precious lessons of moral courage
and faith in God.
Look at Hannah, the mother of Bamuel, the
chosen mooel of all pious ohildren, and as you
ponder her history—and I beseech you to ponder
ft—leirn from her example, the sweet graces of
meekness, patienoq humility and faitn, under the
greatest trie's and provocations from her feliow
creHtures. and under di-pensa ione of Divine Pro

ed a spirit less given to pruyer and trust iu God.
Irae, sho is hoard saying, “I am a woman of a
sorrowful spirit;” but the throne ot grace brooght

Look at the daughter of Jophthah, and as you
aee her prompt sub <.isaiou to tier father’s will,
when she re/arded it as the will »>f God, though
liberty a id life were at. s'eke. On I U rgat not to

ther and mother, which is the first commandment;
that it may be weil with thee, and thou rnayesl

Look at the fine primitive young woman, Ruth ;
and as you hear hi»r saying, with an earnest spirit,
to N omi: “ Entreat me i_ot to leave thee, or to re

foi t, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will

W iiuan, is decision for God and his trath ; and
how they are rewarded, oven in this lite, who pre

a vain and siufal world.
A* you trace the picturesqueboautiesof woman

stre'ch on tho bed ol death ! —\2 K tigs iv. B—B7.
Think, toe, ot the wi low of whose
only son the prophet E ijah raised to life again, and
restored to his weeping mother: is she not a pleas

sharing her little all with the propbetofthe Lord,
and the religious * ffoot produced on her mind o>
a wonderful interposition of Divine goodness on

dead child looking once more ou his weeping
mother, “now by this I know thou art a man o
God, and 'hat t is word of iheL ri iu thy moat'

have seen G >d’s wonderful acts of kindness to

A youug woman, without a deep and solemn

In such a elate of thoughtless indifference to her

A CARD~ ~ r
Interesting to BveryboCy.
H. H. Hickman has recently published a letter I
addressed him on private business, which “he pre"
faces” with a “few remarks,” in which he make?
three distinct complaiuts. Tho first ia against my
energy. The secon d charges me with professions'
extortion, and the third impugns my courtesy. I
received the claim only the aay before the Onrt
met, in which suit had to be instituted. No suit
can oe commenced in tbe Superior Courts of Geor
gia in less than twenty days before the first day of
tbe regular term. Six months then bad to elapse
before appearance tern , and six months more be
fore judgment term. At the earliest day practica
ble, a judgment wa- entered in this case. The
Fi. Fa woe issued, sent to me, and lost in the mail.
Nothing could be dooe then until the next regalar
term of the Court. At that term I took an order
requiring the le’k to issue an alia* Fi. Fa. This
was not returnable until the succeeding term.—
Now is not *-ia whole Uoo years of dday accounted
for ? It lam accountable for mail miscarriages, or
the period that intervenes bi tween regular terms
of the Coarts in Georgia, then I admit it must be
my fault that thi- 1 ttle eighty dollar claim has not
been forthcoming long sines. Why the money
was not made at the last term, is fully explained
in the very interesting epistle Mr. H. has done
himself the to give to the merchants “and
the rest ot mankind.” Tbe fee is the minimum
charge mad? by the R chm nd legal fee bill, for
the services rendered ; more, it might, but less it
coaid not h*ve been.
Bat admit that five dollars too much was chsrged
ought not Mr. H.,wbo has airain and again received
my professional services without cha-ye, only be
cauae the most that coaid be done for him in the
premises would not benefit him, to be the last
man, if he is not hopelessly lost to every sense of
shame, to complain about it, ( f ven to me, much
less before the world, with tbe mallgnat motive of
inflicting an injury aj-on my professional reputa
tion,) before even asking for an explanation ?
Lastly, I plead guilty to the count in his iDdict
meut against my courtesy, and if the pub ic knew
all the facts, their verdict would be, “served him
right.” But, query, is the latter matter not entire
ly an affair of oar own ? And, let me quietly ask,
' does doi the man who pays a printer to blazon to
the world (and calls the special attention of his
own craftsmen to the fact) that he has been treated
i with contempt prove moat emphatically that he
deserved it? And how does this become interesting
to merchants? Doe* Mr. H. expect that tho com
mercial wot Id will call an indiguation meeting and
fulminate anathemas upon my devoted bead, all
because I have treated him contemptuously ?
Now, what / did was strictly c*nji*lential. Ho it is
who has made it public. If he has won any laurels
in his sublime ambition to be “interesting to mer
chants,” mixed np as it is with the most malicious
ingratitude, long may he wear them. I publi-h
this card for no other pm pose than as an act of
jurtica to those high toned and honorable mer
chants of Augus.a through whose kind exertioGsl
have acquired from abroad much collecting patron
a/e, and I congratulate myself on the fact that
when I leave my reputation for energy, promptness
and urbanity in t eir hands, I leave it where H.
H. Hickman can do it no barm.
Respectfully, Andrew H. H. Dawson.
