Great Crop of Corn.—Tho National Intelli
gencer has the following extract.from the Journal
of a gentleman, who (ravelled for agricultural in
formation :
'Nov.. 1st, 1834. Visited Mr. John Seriimes,
of St. jVlary’8 county, Maryland, who infurms us
that itis. great crop of corn averaged upwards of
twenty-five barrels,the acre. Respectable , judges
or the country Were .- appointed to ascertain the
quantity of corn t. nnd niter linving accurately sttr-
vcyt-d one acre, the corn was gathered and meas
ured. ■ First, n barrel being shelled to ascertain tho
accuracy of tho barrel, eighteen or twenty of the
respectable gentlemen of tho county und of the
adjoining county were present, saw the hind meas
ured, saw the corn measured, and are ready-at a-
iy time to lestiry the fact, that tho averago -nere,
neasured in their presence, amounted to "twetuy-
ivc barrels and sumo peeks per nere. This fnrrn is
ituated on tho Patuxent river, fifteen miles below
