CAUTION.
THE Public are hereby cautioned against receiv
ing or trading for the following Promissory
Notes, viz : Four notes of hand, for Fifty Dollars
each, and ones r One Hundred Dollars, due six
months after date ; two notes of hand for one Hundred
each, due nine months after date ; two notes of hand
for One Hundred each, due twelve months after date.
All the above notes, drawn by Jacob Fogle, dated
September 30th, 1840, and payable at the Bank of Co
lumbus, to my order, and endorsed. These notes are
my property, and payment, will be refused to any other
person. A Iso, two notes of hand drawn by myself,
payable to the order of, and endorsed by Jacob Fogle,
for one hundred dollars each, dated as above and due
twelve months after date. These two notes having
been paid, I shall use all legal means to resist thesec

PLANTERS HOTEL.
THE subscriber has removed from his old stand
at the corner of Oglethorpe and Bryan streets,
to the buildings diagonally opposite, above Calhoun’s
Warehouse. He avails himself of this opportunity to
return his thanks to his friends and the public general
ly,fir the liberal patronage heretofore extended to him,
and hopes by continued exertions and constant endeav
ors to please, to merit a continuance. Transient cus
tomers and regular boarders will be accommodated
prices as low as circumstances will permit. Horses
will be sent to the livery stable of Mr. Halstead, where
every attention will be paid to them.

BROUGHT TO JAIL
ON the 22d day of March, 1841, in the county of
Muscogee, a negro man who calls himself He
nry Elam, and who says that he is a free man, and was
hound to a man by the name of German or Gilbert
Stokes, at the age of 5 years, who lives iri Rocking
ham county, N. C. He also states that he was robbed
of all his money and papers in the state of South Car
olina. The said negro is about 21 years of age,
weighing about 145 or 150 pounds ; yellow complec
ted, no scars or mams visible on him ; he is about 5
feet Bor 9 inches high. The owner, if any, is reques
ted to come forward, prove property and take him

ON the 24th of February last, a negro boy who
calls himself SOWELL, and says he belongs
to Col. Felix G. Gibson, of Florence, Stewart, county,
Georgia. The negro is about 20 years of age, low
and chunky, very thick lips, and yellow complexion.—
The owner is requested to come forward, prove prop
erty, pay expenses and take him away.

Man, named Ned. He is 24 or 25 years of age, about
six feet high, slightly foimed, dark complexion, thick
lips, and has two or'ihree of his upper fore teeth out.
He will eithci attempt to go to Mobile, and from thence
to New Orleans, or towards North Carolina, where he
was raised. I think it probable, when he is taken up,
he will not give his own name nor mine. I will wive
the above reward to any on who will lodge him in the
jail in ihe City of Montgomery, or 835 if lodged in
any jail, and information given me at Mount Me Os.

tion in our community, calculated to injure
the credit of John G. Winter Esq., of
you will please copy the following advertise
ment from the New York Express:
THE interruption of the Mails by the late freshet
in Georgia having caused a delay in the letters
advising certain drafts (for trifling amountsj'by J. G.
Winter of Augusta, Georgia, on the Mechanic’s Bank
of this city, which were to be provided for out of funds of
his, to ten times the amount in our hands, the drafts
were protested, without our being called on, although
the holders of some of them at least, if not all, were in
formed they would be paid by us. As soon as inform
ed of the protest by a friend, we immediately took up
up the drafts, none of which were returned. The fact,
however, of the protest having been used in Georgia
to the disadvantage of J. G. Winter, he desires us to

the said James Ennis iiad on that day, made and de

man about twenty-one years of age, and her two chil
dren, Dennis a boy about five years old, Frances a
girl about two years old, and four horses aud one mule

forty- wo head of hogs and live feather beds, bedsteads
and furniture, together w ith all and singular the house
hold and kitchen furniture of the said James Ennis,
together with all the crops of the said James Ennis,
annually, (till paid) to have and to hold the said bat
ganied laud and premises and property to (the said
Gnbriel Jones) your petitioner, his heiisand assigns
to ins and then own proper use and benefit and be
hoof fore, er, and the said James Ennis lor himself,
Ins heirs, executors and administrators, the said bar-
gained premises and property, unto your petitiuner
did warrant against the claim of hui'seif and Ins heirs,
and against the claim of all other persons, w hatever
with a provision, nevertheless, that if the said James
Ennis, his licit s, executors and udministrati rs, should
and did well and truly pay or cause lo be paid unto
your petitioner, his heirs and assigns, the aioremen
tinned sums of money in said notes specified, accor
ding to the tenor and effect thereof, on the days and
tint s mentioned and appointed for the | a'merit there
of, m the said promissory notes mentiom and, with law
ful interest for the same, according lo the tenor of
said notes, then and from thenciforih, as well the said
mortgage deed aud the right of properly then by coi -
veyed as the said promissory notes should cease, de
termine and be void to all intents anil purposes. Now
this petition shewetli to the court that the first and se
cond promissory notes heretofore specified, to wit: iho
note due on or b-fore the first day of January next en
suing, the date of said mortgage deed, and the note
due on or before the first day of January next, ensu
ing, the dale of said mortgage detd, and the note duo
on or before the lirst da) 1 ol January eighteen Imndrid
and forty-one, with interest on each, have long since
been due and payable (as aforesaid) hut that neither
the said J a me- Ennis nor any person or pet sons on
his In-hall have paid the said stuns of money iheriin
specified, or any part thereof, hut has hitherto wholly
and entirely failed and refused so to do—wherefore
your petitioner prays that the said Janies Ennis be
ordered by the court to pay into the Clerk’s Olfice of
the same on or before the first day of the next Term
thereof, the said sums of money in the last aforesaid
two promissory notes specified, together with all in
terest and cost which may be tine thereon, at the
time of such payment, or that in default thereof, bv
the said James Ennis the Equity of Redemption of
the said James Ennis in and to said mortgaged lots of
lands, be thenceforth forever hatred and foreclose* 4 .

Ennis pay into the Clerks Office of this Court, on or

together with all interest and cost ercruing at the
time of such payment, and in default thereof, that the
Equity of Redemption o* the said James Ennis in and

ever barred and foieclosed, audit is further ordered,
that a true, copy in substance ot this Role Nisi be
served upon the said, Janos Ennis personally, at least
tlnee motiihs before the first day of the next Term of
this Court, or by publication in one of the public ga
zettes of Columbus, Georgia, four months before the
next Term of this Court.

ARTICLES of Agreement made and entered

dred and thirty-three, bet ween the undersigned indi
viduals who have associated tlx mseives as a Compa
ny, for the purpose of porch sing Indian lands in the
Creek Nation, under the style of George W. Dilling
ham & Cos. ‘1 he Company is to be composed of the
so lowing persons: G. YV. Dillingham, D. K. Dodge,
Luther Blase, Columbus Mills and Fielding Scrog
gins, to have each a full shart—the purchases of said
laudato he inane by Mills and Blake, and to he certi
fied in the name of G. W. Dillingham & Cos., L.
Blake & Cos., F. Scroggins & Cos., or C. Mills & Cos.
The money to effect the purchases is to be furnished
by Dillingham arid Dodge, the other members of said
Company proportions, to be taken out of the proceeds
of the lands w.ien sold, which sales and all other
limits relating to the business of said Company, must
be nm le by and with the consent of a majority of said
Company. In all questions touching the general in
terest and concern of the company, a majority shall
govern, each having an equal vote. Should any of
the Company die before a final close of the business,
the survivors shall go on and close lhe business of the
company, by disposing of the lands and other effects
of tin Company with or without the consent of the
representative or representatives of the deceased par
ty or parties, but the full share shail be paid to his
i epresonla'.ives.

lieu of said lost original, unless good cause he shown

ROBIN HOOD,
WILL stand the ensuing season, one half of his
time at my stable, nineteen miles above Colum
bus, in Russell county, Ala., and the other part of his
time at Lafayette, Chambers county, Ala., and will be
let to mares at the reduced price ofFifty Dollars, due
25th of December next. Mares sent over thirty
milts will he fed t-.o months gratis. Persons failing
to get a colt in the Spring, will be allowed the Fal
season gratis, if the mares are sent to my stable. AH
care will be taken to prevent accidents and escapes
but no liabilities for either.
A > to Robin’s performances on the turf, a reference
to the Stud Book or the Spirit of the Times, will give
entire sate-faction. It is also due him to say. that his
colts, so far as trials have been made, have been sur
passed by none in the United States.
