THE LONDON QUAKTKBLY (Conservative).
THE EDINUUURGH REVIEW (Whig).
THE NORTH BRITISH REVIEW (Free Church).
THE WESTMINSTER REVIEW (Liberal).
BLACKWOOD’S EDINBURGH MAGAZINE (Tory).
f|MIK groat and iuiportuutevents—Religious, Political,
X and Military—now agitating tile nation* of the Old
World, give to those Publicnitons uu interest and value
they never before possessed. They occupy a middle
ground between tbe hastily written new * Item*, crude
speculations, and flying rumors of the iiewft|per, aud
the ponderous Tome of the historian, written long after
the livtug interest in the facts lie records shall have
passed away. The progress of the War iu tiie East occu
pies a large space in tlieir pages. Every movemeut 1*
closely criticised, whether ot friend or of foe, ami all
short comings toarlessly pointed out. The letters from
the Crimea aud from the Baltic iu Blackwood's Magazine,
fnmi two of it* most popular contributors, give a mole
inteHigll'lo and reliable account of tho movements ot the
great belligerents that ran elsewhere I*’ found.
These Periodicals ably lepruscut the three great politi
cal inn-ties ol Great Britain—Whig, Tory, and Radical,—
but imlitirs forms only one feature of their character.
As Organs of the most profound writers on Science, Lite
rutiire, Morality, and Religion, they staud, as they ovei
have stood, unrivalled In the world of letters, being con
sidered Indispensable to the scholar and the profeisiouul
man, while to the intelligent reader of every class they
furnish u more correct aud satisfactory record of the eui
rent literature of the >la)\ throughout the world, than
cau be possibly obtained frtilu any other source.
