THE BRITISH PERIODICALS,
AND
THH PAI4MHJ:I’S GrUISIQ.
Great reduction in the price of the latter publication,
L. Scott A Cos., New York, continue to publish the’foi
lowing leading Britisli Periodicals, viz:
THE LONDON QUARTERLY (Conservative).
THE EDINGBURGH REVIEW (Whig).
THE NORTH BRITISH REVIEW (Free Church).
THE WESTMINSTER REVIEW (Liberal).
BLACKWOOD’S EDINBURGH MAGAZINE (Tory).
IMIE great and important events—Religious, Political,
and Military—now agitating the nations of the Old
W orld, give to these Publications an interest and value
they never before possessed. They occupy a middle
ground between the hastily written news items, crude
speculations, and Hying rumors of the newspaper, and
tlie ponderous Tome of the historian, written lung after
the living interest in the fact* he records shall have
passed away. Tlie progress of the War in tlie East occu
pies 11 large space in tlieir pages. Every movement is
closely criticised, whether ol friend or of foe, and al)
short-coming* fearlessly pointed out. ’’’he letters from
the Crimea ami from the Baltic in Bluckwood’sMagazine,
from two of its most papular contributors, give a more
intelligible aud reliable account of tlie movement* of the
great belligerents that can elsewhere he found.
These Periodicals ably represent the three great, politi
cal parties of Great Britain—Whig, Tory, and Itiulicai, —
but politics forms only one feature of tlieir character.—
As Organs of the most profound writers on Science, Lite
rature, Morality, and Religion, they stand, as they ever
have stood, unrivalled in tlie world of letters, being con
sidered indispensable to tlie scholar und the proftssiormi
man, while to the intelligent reader of every class they
furnish a more correct and satisfactory record of the cui -
rent literature of the day, throughout the world, than
can he possibly obtained from any other source.
Early Copies.
The receipt of Ailvanee Sheets from the British publish
ers gives additional value to these Reprints, especially
during the present exciting state of European aftairs, iu
nsmucli ns they can now he placed in tlio hands of sub
zerihers about as soon as the original editions.
