The Army Appropriation.
The Washington Correspondent of the New
■ Vork Herald, noticing the passage of the Ar-
I y Appropriation Bill through the House,
Isays:
i .j^ e Republicans could, if they had chose,
| liave killeh the bill. Messrs. Welsh of Con-
Int'Cticut, Mill ward of Pennsylvania, Miller of
|\ V with Speaker Banks, would have defeat
■ei it, but they evidently were anxious it should
■pass.
| The same correspondent says:
Letters had been received from Greely and
Intliers begging the Republicans to change
■tln-ir tactics, as their course was ruining them
ft, home. In oue letter Greely says; “For
■jod’s sake, lot the bill pass.”
I The greatest excitement prevailed during the
o f'tho yeas and nays, and when the result
Rvus announced a general congratulation pre-
Ivailed over the whole House, the Republicans,
K’ possible, showing the greatest joy, and ina-
I rushing from the Capital to prepared lor
fieaving by the evening train.
[ While the vote was being taken in the House
B,n the final passage of the bill, the Senators
■oft their seats and eame over in a body to the
iplousc.
I Col. 11. Clay Davis, of Itio Grande City,
■diluted this year eighty acres of cotton, which |
Burned out a good crop, and which he sold in
■he Mexican market at 17 % cents per pound.— j
■Profitable business.
Curious if True.
I An exchange says that one vote in the Urr- ;
fted States Senate annexed Texas to the United
■States. Mr. Hannogan, of Indiana, east that
■vote. One vote in tho Indiana Legislature
■elected Mr. Hannegan to his place in the Sen
late. That vote was cast bv Madison Marsh,
lot'Staunton county. Mr. Marsh was chosen
ft') the Legislature of Indiana by one vote.
j The Wilmington Herald learns that a very
lui'ious accident occurred on Monday morning
Sun the North Carolina Railroad, hy which
fiirec, if not more, persons lost their lives.—
■When the freight train, which left in the mor
liing, reached Little lliver bridge, distant a
|ew miles from Goldsboro’, the structure gave
way, precipitating the locomotive, an i perhaps
)thers of the cars, into the river beneath, Idli
ng the conductor, fireman, and another per
son. One report is that five persons were kill
d. The whole train was not precipitated from
he track, the couplings having given way.—
l'o this circumstance, probably, others on the
rain are indebted for the safety of their lives,
it is thought that the accident was occasioned
)y the recent heavy rains weakening the sup-
Siorts of the bridge.
An Editor shot at Goldsboro, iNoth Caro
lina.
The Wilmington Herald regrets to hear of a
painful affair which occurred at Goldsboro, on
Saturday last. The report is to the effect
that Wm. Robinson, Esq., editor of the Golds
joro Tribune, was shot in the side by Wm. T.
Dortch, Lsq., the latter using a double barrel
run, and discharging the contents of both bar
rels at the former. The situation of Mr. Rob-
Jnsou is unknown. There had been an old
I trudge between the parties.
Mr. Dortch is a prominent member of the
democratic party, and was beaten for the
I Legislature at the late election byjsome four
I )r votes only. The Tribune, also Dem-
I Jeratic, voleutly opposed his election.
Good Effects of Late Rains,

HAIR RESTORATIVE.
It Has Worked Miracles.
rjUIAT ALL THE BALD AND GRAY can be restored
A perfectly to original growth, so far a their locks are
concerned, does not admit of doubt; besides, it will cure
every possible disease < f the scalp, whether developed as
dandruff, itching, or iu tire shape of cutaneous erup
iioiis—evon scald-head—and in no possible ease will it
fail of curing, as if by magic, nervous or periodical head
ache, and if used twice a week by the young, regularly,
it will preserve the color, and keep the hair from failing,
to any imaginable age. Read and judge.
LooANSPOItT, la., June, 1855.
Messrs. O. J. WOOD & CO.:
Gents—Yours of the liitli came duly to hand. En
closed, please lind thirty-eight dollars, it being the
amount for Ilair Restorative. 1 have sold it all. * *
If you choose, you may send six dozen bottles Hair Res
torative; I think 1 can sell it. It has worked miracles
in ilds place. 1 sold a man six $1 bottles, that was bald,
and it fetched now hair out all over his head.
Yours, respectfully, M. 11. (DUDLEY
C. R. R. Office, Vandai.ia, Juno 21, 1854.
I’UOFKfchSOlt WOOD—
Dear ir— I take pleasure in bearing voluntary tes
timony to tho excellence of your Hair Restorative. Three
months ago my lmir was very gray. It is now a dark
brown, (the original color,)smooth and glossy. The only
application I have made to il, Inis been the Hair Resto
rative prepared hy you, and which, from the result in
my own case, 1 can most cordially recommend to others.
Respectfully, yours, IvDW. WOLCOTT.
Vincennes, lu., June 21, 18511.
PROF. O. J. WOOD—
As you are about to manufacture and vend your re
cently discovered Hair Restorative, i will state, for
whomsoever it may concern, that i have used it, and
known others to use it—that l have, for several years,
been in the habit of using oilier Hair Restoratives, and
that 1 find yours vastly superior to any other 1 kuow.
Jt entirely cleanses the head of dandruff, and with one
month's proper use, will restore any person’s hair to the
original youthful color and texture, giving it a healthy,
soft and glossy appearance; and ull this, without discol
oring the hands that apply it, or the dress on which it
drops. I would, therefore, recommend its use to every
one desirous of having a line color and texture of hair.
Respectfully, yours, WILSON KING.
St. Louis, June 28, 1853.
PROF. WOOD —
Ah you are about to prepare and vend your recently
discovered Hair Restorative, and as you request my opin
ion of it, I will state, that niy hair was, a few months
ago. very gray, and after using two bottles of your Hair
Restorative, it resumed its original color; and since it
application, all dandruff has disappeared from my head,
ami 1 have been troubled with no disagreeable itching ot
tin 1 scalp. lam Futisfied that those who use it will not
regret it, as it gives the hair the appearance of having
been recently oiled. lam prepared, therefore, to recom
mend ils use to ull who are desirous of having a beautiful
head of hair. I am, sir, yours, etc.
11. L. STEWART.
I’ROF. WOOD—
Dear Sir—My hair had, for several years, been be
coming prematurely gray, accompanied by a harshness
which tendered the constant application of oil necessary
in dressing it. When I commenced using your Hair Res
torative, about two months ago. . was in that condition ;
and having continued its use !■ wi.iiin the lost three
weeks, it has turned to its uatio.d color, and assumed a
softness and lustre greatly t< he preferred to those pro
duced by the application of oils or any other preparation
1 have ever used. I regard it us an indispensable article
for ( very lady’s toilet, whether to be used as a Hair Res
torative, or for the simple purpose of dressing or beauti
fying the lmir. You have permission to refer to me all
who entertain any doubt of its performing all that is
claimed for it. MRS. C. SYMONDS,
Cincinnati, Ohio, Feb. 10, 1854. 144 Third st.
Watertown, Mass., May 1,18f>4.
PROF. O. J. WOOD—
Allow me to attest the virtues and magic powers of
yum Hair Restorative. Three months since, being ex
ceedingly gray, 1 purchased, and soon commenced to use,
two bottles; and it soon began to tell, in restoring the
silver locks to their native color, and the hair, which was
before dry and harsh am! fulling off. now became soft
and [glossy, and it (‘cased falling: the dandruff disap
peared, and the scalp lost all the disagreeable itching,
so annoying before, and now . I not only look, but feci
voting again. Respectfully, yours, etc.
