A Dead. Shot.
i tf OO J story is told of U., of Racine, an in
fotur'ible and successful sportsman, “ dead
,’ !it anything in the game line, but parti- ;
r h ?‘lv“tiue lined” on wild geese, whose
beids were sure to suffer -just buck of the
“ „ - ;f within range of his rille.
I ey Xot many seasons since, our hero, with an
V, fun loving friend, after spending a day
l.i, their dogs and guns, were wending then
i homeward, when in the evening twilight
’ orish companion discovered the neck of
1 Wiki goose peering through a neighboring
le "‘StoP your d—n noise,” said U., “and
mt* I’ll have him jest back of the eye
wait 8 on. x
-you call bet your life cn that.”
! Pepping back a pace, nud bringing the old
in sty to his face, U. blazed away.
I -Hollo, there !” followed back (lie report ;
I•• what are you shooting there for. Don’t you
know tbe difference between the handle of a
corn plough and a goose neck ?”
Twas enough ! U. had shot the handle oft’ a
corn plough, “jest back of the eye!”
Among the “passengers” by the Hudson
lji”v er Railroad, on Saturday, were two Cash
mere goats bound for Tennessee. The Albany
Times says they were purchased in South Car- j
olina at $2,600, and have been exhibited in
Sew York. Admitting the two animals to
weigh sixty pounds, for they are diminutive
creatures, they would cost about forty-four dol- j
liars per pound.
A Washington letter says:—“The dispatch
er from Mr. Dallas do not convey the intelli- j
iience contained in the London papers, of the I
Settlements of all disputes relative to Central i
America. The reason is that for the present
the negotiation* are omy between the British
and Central American Government. When
they arc iinished, a direct correspondence be
tween Lord Clarendon and Mr. Dallas will
commence, which is expected to result in a
comprehensive adjustment about the end of Oc
tober.”
“ Well, Charley, what have you been learn
ing to-day?” “Rheumatics, gran’ma; and I
can tell you such a dodge 1 If I was to put
you under a glass receiver, and exhaust the
air, all your wrinkles would come out as smooth
iisgran’pa’s head.”
A census of Nebraska Teritory has just been
taken by the United .States Marshals. The re
turns were to be made by the first of Septem
ber, and would, it was thought, show a popu- !
lation of between fifteen and twenty thousand i
civilized white inhabitats.
A congratulatory meeting of the citizens of
Portland (Maine,) was held on the 2d inst., on
the passage of the army bill, when Messrs.
George Evans and Jonathan Appleton made

HAIR RESTORATIVE.
It Has Worked. Miracles.
r I MI AT ALL THE BALD AND GRAY can be restored
X perfectly to original growth, so far as their locks are
j concerned, does not admit of doubt; besides, it will cura
1 every possible disease of the scalp, whether developed as
dunuruif, itching, or in the shape of cutaneous erup
tious—even scald-head—and in no possible case will it
fail of curing, us if by magic, nervous or periodical head
ache, and if used twice a week by the young, regularly,
it will preserve tho color, and keep the hair from falling,
to any imaginable age. Read and judge.
Loiiansport, la., June, 1866.
Musses. G. J. WOOD & CO.:
Gents—Yours of the 13tli cams duly to hand. En
closed, please find thirty-eight dollars, it beiug the
amount for llair Restorative. 1 have sold it all. * *
If you choose, you may send six dozen buttles Hail- Res
torativc; 1 think I can sell it. It has worked miracles
m this place. 1 sold a uian six $1 bottles, that was bald,
! and it tetched new llair out all over bis head.
Yours, respect fully, M. H. GRIDLEY
C. R. R. Office, Vandaua, June 21, 1854.
j PROFESSOR WOOD—-
Dear Sir—l take pleasure in hearing voluntary tes
timony to the excellence of your llair Restorative, ‘three
months ago my hair was very gray. It is now a dark
brown, (the original color,) smooth and glossy. The only
application 1 have made to it, has been the llair Resto
rative prepared by you, and which, from file result in
my own case, 1 can most cordially recommend to others.
Respectfully, yours, EDW. WOLCOTT.
Vincennes, la., June 21,1853.
I’ROF. O. *l. WOOD—
As you are about to manufacture and vend your re
cently discovered Iliur Restorative, i will state, foi
whomsoever it may concern, that 1 have used it, and
known others to use it—that I have, for several years,
been in the habit of using ether Hair Restoratives, atm
that 1 find yours vastly superior to any other I know
It entirely cleanses tlie head of dandruff, and with one
month’s proper use, will restore any person’s hair to the
original youthful color aud texture, giving it a healthy ,
soft and glossy appearance; mid all this, without discol
oring the hands that apply it, or the dress on which it
drops. 1 would, therefore, recommend its use to every
one desirous oi having a line color and texture of hair.
Respectfully, yours, WILSON KING.
St. Louis, June 29,1853.
PROF. WOOD—
As you are about to prepare and vend your recently
discovered Hair Restorative, and as you request my opili
ion of It, 1 will state, that my hair was. a few mouths
ago, very gray, and after using two bottles of your Hail
Restorative, it resumed its original color; and since its
application, all dandruff has disappeared from uiy head,
ami I have been troubled with no disagreeable itching oi
the scalp. I urn satisfied that those who use it will not
regret it, as it gives the hair the appearance of having
been recently oiled, i mil prepared, thereibre, to recom
mend its use to all who are desirous of having a beautiful
head of hair. 1 am, sir, yours, etc.
H. L. STEWART.
PROF. Wi j! ID —
Dear Sir—My hair had, for several years, been be
coming prematurely gray, accompanied by a harshness
which tendered the constant application of oil necessary
in dressing It. W hen 1 coinniei.n and using your llair Be
torative, about two months ago P was in that condition ;
and having continued its use within the last three,
weeks, it has turned to its naim. I color, and assumed u
softness and lustre greatly In be preferred to those pro
diced by tlie apphoatioti of oils m any other piepnration
1 have ever used. I regard it as ail indispensable article
for every lady’s toilet, whether to lie used as a llair l’.es
torativc, or for the simple purpose of dressing or beauti
tying the hair. You have permission to refer to me all
who entertain any doubt of its performing all that is
claimed for it. MRS. C. HYjVIONDS,
Cincinnati, Ohio, Feb. 1(1,1884. 144 Third st.
Watertown, Mass., May 1, 1854,
PROF. O. J. WOOD—
Allow me to attest the virtues and magic powers of
youi llair Restorative. Three mouths since, being ex
cfcedingly gray, i purchased, and sooli commenced to use,
two bottles; audit soon begun to tell, ill restoring the
silver locks to tlu-lr native color, and the hair, which who
before dry anil harsh and falling off, now became soft
and “glossy, and it leased falling; the dandruff disap
peared, and the scalp lost all the disagreeable Itching,
so annoying before, and now, I not only look, but fee]
young again. Respectfully, yours, etc.
