Lightning.
Our city was visited by a streak of lightning
Thursday night, which made its entrance
nto the Washington Hall, tearing otf the
reatherboarding, splintering the timbers, de
nolishing the plastering, breaking the glass,
letting fire to the house, and playing rip with
hiugs generally.
| The lightning, it is supposed, struck the
L„| hui that not affording it a sufficiently com
tiodious passage, it branched off on a stove
ipe au d entered a bed room occupied by two
ravelers, named Dulianc and Smith these it
mceremoniously knocked out of bed with a
little burning and considerable shaking, but
n o serious injury, and then proceeded to
>■ spread itself” throughout the house, break
ing hell wires, knocking down bar-keepers,
setting fire to whatever come in its way, and
alarming every body generally.
The tire was soon extinguished. Nobody
was found seriously hurt, and the injury to
the house is just sufficient to cause the pro
prietors to remember their strange visitor of
the 1-tli of September. —Atlanta Intel.
The statement of the New York City Banks,
ot their average condition for the week ending
Sept. 6th, show an increase of $104,783 in
loans, $131,069 in specie, and $290,270 in
circulation, anti a decrease of $427,838 in de
posits.

HAIR RESTORATIVE.
WE CALI, THE ATTENTION OF ALL, OLD AND
YOUNG, to. the wonderful preparation, which
turns back to its original color gray hair—covers tlie
head of tlie bald witli a luxuriant growth—removes the
daudiutf, itching and all cutaneous eruptions —causes a
continual Row of the natural fluids; anil hence, if used
as a regular dressing for the hair, will preserve its
color, and keep it from fulling to extreme old age, in ail
its nuturul beauty. We call, then, upon the bald, the
gray, or diseased; iu scalp, to use it; and surely, the
young will not, us they value the flowing locks, or the
witching curlH, ever be without it. Its praise is upon
the tongue of thousands.
Waterford, Must., July 25, 1856.
PROF. O. J. WOOD—With confidence, do I recom
mend your Hair Restorative, as being the most crtica
clous arti de I ever saw. I have übcil tlie Walpliene aud
other preparations of the day, all without effect. Since
using your Hair Restorative, my lmir and whiskers,
which were almost white, have gradually grown dark;
and 1 now feel confident, that a tew more applications
will restore them to their natural color. It also lias re
lieved me of all dandruff and unpleasant itching, so
common among persons who perspire freely.
J. G. KILBY
Anrth Katt l’inutylwnia, March 9, 1865.
Sill—ln consequence of having hair, lor several years
past, not only gruy, hut perfectly white, 1 have cut it
short, and worn caps to hide it hem view; but some
three months since, i was induced to use your Iluir Re
storative, and 1 must, in justice say, that its effects were
almost miraculous: for it has changed it gradually to a!
most its former splendor as to color, And left it so soft
and glossy us to lie more beautiful than it ever was,
when under tlu- influence of tine nil. I earnestly, there
fore, recommend it to every lady its decidedly the liest
preparation for toilet use. 01 uuytldiig in tlie world.
BETSY SMITH.
PROF. WOOD—Having experienced tlie magic etteef
of your Hair Restorative, 1 drop you this upon the sub
ject. About two years ago, my hair commenced tolling
ofl and turning gray; I was lust becoming bald. J met
a friend who had used your Restorative, and spoke so
highly fit its virtues, J was induced to try it, although 1
lmd but little faith, ns 1 had before tried so many other
lnidieiucs. 1 commenced using your Restorative in Jan
ms y last. A few applications fastened my hair lirmly.
It began to fill up, grow out, aud turned back to its
former color, (black.) At this time, it is fully restored
to its original color, health and appearance, and 1 cheer
fully recommend its use to all. J. I). HUES.

PROF. U. J. WOOD—Dear Sir—l take pleasure in
bearing voluntary testimony to the magic effects of
your wonderful llair Restorative. As far back as 1836,
my hair commenced falling off, until the top of my scalp
became bald and us smooth ns gloss, and it lias continued
to fall for a great many years, iiotwi'hstanding I have
used many celebrated preparations for its restoration.
Seeing your advertisement. I wtut induced to give your
article a trial, and, to my utter astonishment, 1 found
after a lew applications, that my hair became firmly set.
and assumed a glossy and beautiful appearance; and by
the time I lmd used a quart bottle, my bald bead was
covered w ith a young and vigor. ~ • growth of hair, which
is now from one to two inches i. length, and growing
fast. Yours, truly, < I LNitY GOODRICH.
AVic l urk, October 2, 1854.
PROF. O. J. WOOD—Dear Sir—After reading the ad
vertisement in one of the New York journals, ot your
celebrated llair Restorative, 1 procured a ball-pint bet
lie. and was so much pleased witli it, that 1 continued
its use for two mouths, and am satisfied it is decidedly tlie
licet preparation bct.nc the public. It at once removed
all dandruff and uiipfeusant itching from the scalp, ami
lias restored my hair naturally, and, I have uo doubt,
permanently so,
toil have pm mission to refer to me, all who entertain
any doubt of its performing all that is claimed for it.
MISS FEEKS, 2<'(.j Greenwich Avenue.
1 have used Professor O. J. Wood's Hair Restoratiae,
and have admired its wonderful effects. It restored my
hair where it lmd fallen off; it cleans tlie head, aud ren
ders tlie lmir soft aud smooth—much more so than oil.
