then, at longer intervals, ,-ay once in six or eight hours.
The bonesei tea should be given worm till the violent
symptoms are uDnyed, or the patient is n lievcd; then
colli; fomentations, mustard plaster, or something of
tho kind, tube npjilie-t over the seat of jutiu; keep the
bowels geutly open.
Vm-ialn. Varioloid, lliiimdi* anil Scnrla.-

As ail of these diseases are attended w ith fever, which
in fact is the most prominent symptom, the treatment
differs lute little from that of common levers. Kemomber
never wait to learn tho “ mint,” whether it is one or the
other, er iwUlu.r, a# they all Commence ivft/i Jirrr, but
treat it at mice; govern the fever and there will be no
trouble; thorn will I- a hut little tru/ilion even in small
pox. This, to most minds, i- anew idea, nud doubtless
will be regarded with ridicule by many. I nevertheless
boldly make the nssertlon, that small jinx, if treated as
1 direct, will !"• ml thorl; attended w ith but little erup
tion; little or no jiitting, and that there is no w.a.*sity of
its running il# ordinary course. On this I will stake
not only my reputation, but a l that I hold most dear;
besides, on this subject, 1 have good authority; that of
Prof. Watson, previously quoted. lie says, page .*>7-1:
” Toll may abate the force of the eruptive level, and
keep down, it is believed, tbe hhihlm’i'nj the jtuduleis by

Hive a teiispountul or more, according to the urgency
of thu case, with a dose of salts or castor oil; repeat the
Fluid once iu two hours il necessary, until tin- feversub
side#—tliongh one or two don s Is genera ly sufficient;
but il should he given and repeated sufficiently to Keep
tile lever under control. When the throat is affected,
any of the ordinary gurgles may lie used, and the
surface bathed, as thought advisable.
Iu one case, ou the ship Duchess d'Orleans, the longue
and fuucus were so much .swollen tbut the patient could
not swallow or speck, and lie was cured by dropping the
Fluid on his tongue, drop by drop, (ill he could swallow ,
when ii was given in tciiHjioonful ii” c- ,-ivry hour, till
all alarming symptoms disappeared. The .swelling of
the throat was reduced so ns lo etiahlu him to take nour
ishment in about twelve hours by the Fluid alone.—
Used to wet the throat frequently, it is doubtless the
ixft ynryl*. in all such cases.
Puerperal or CUiltlbf-tl Fever.
Thl* heretofore painful, dangerous and alarming
malady to which the mother is liable, will yield to the
Negative Electric Fluid with sueli readiness, as lo seem
to be of little consequence. A single dose or tw o of a
totinjvoouful. almost invariably giving entire and per
manent relief; no ularm need be entertained, as the
Fluid will arrest it In a short time. It should be re
pi ated as long us tiiu f-ver continues, ns in other cases,
i'll-* bow els of course should be attended to.
In connection with this subject, 1 cannot refrain from
making a few geuerul remarks, which, if regarded by
the Indies, will stive them much pain mid suffering. It
I# to luform them of tho happy effect of the Fluid iu
many of their trials, lu child-birth, its relaxing and
soothing effect deprives the labor of much of its pain#
*ud difficulties; it must be tried to Is* appreciated.-

mon dtwi uud retiring- Itestlessuess. nervous irritability,
->r a Cold tukeu at a delicate lime, is easily relieved by
its use; lu short, it is one of the most convenient uud
effectual remedies lor many of the ills of females, if not
lh most so of any medicine known, lls effect is uniform,
relaxing the whole system, removing all excitability
and Iritabllity of the uervous as well us the circulatory.
It will not iorec sleep like u|>iutes, but it will sooth and
quiet tbe system so that one can sleep naturally and
Healthy ; hence its use In so many cusps.

To avoid constant repetition, uud condense the treat.
tuoUt as much a# possible, 1 give under this head gencrul
directions for all cases. As tho Negative Electric Fluid
will chuupe tins condition called lever, or subdue and
coutrol it under ull clrcumstauc-es, without regard to the
,ux<M It may be or ought to be called, it should be given
wherever or whenever il exists; yet it cannot be e.x
peeted to control all orgauic or local causes, which,
when such exist, must la- removed in order to effect a
permanent cure.
When such indication# occur in any case, they should
be appropriate means, and these subuld be given while
giving the “Fluid,” and in connection with it, when
occasion requires, is# they w ill then more readily act,
pic-dll, Uig more generul effect, besides no unnecessary
time will then bo loot As the ‘, Fluid” alone will sub
due the fever, I call all else auxiliary treatment.
If Die bowel# arc costive, give a cathartic (see anxili
**rlev-) with Lne ffrsl dose, or son after, anil should it
fail to operate In duo time, repeat the dose; if a (tended
with diarrhiwa, give something known to be good for
ihrtt complaint, though if cuused by irritability, the
“ Fluid” will soon relievo that condition; if severe local
paiu or Inflammation, apply some stimulatin',- liniment,
a mustard plaster, a blister, fomentations of bitter herbs,
or, perhaj.#, cloth.# wot iu cold water, to tho part; if
vloient pain in the head, apply cold water, ice water,
if convenient, or some cooling application, and bathe
tho feet in hot water; if tho fever is very high, skhi
dry and hot, with grout suffering, sponge or bathe the
whole surface with water at an agreeable temperature;

cine lu taking effect, alter which there w ill bo no trou
ble ; if the patient has been reduced or is much prostra
ted, give tonics and stimulants, particularly in low
fovers, In absence of lever or when indicated; also,
during convalescence, when the patient lias iicconie re
duced ; If thorn is nausea and vomiting, tlmt must be
allayed before any medicine will remain on tin* stomach
to do any good; for this purpose 1 generally gin- some
gwutle vmatle lo cleanse the stomuch ; warm water, if
given plentifully, will answer every purpose: when the
stomach li#.# settled, give tbe ” Fluid'’ au,| a cathartic if
necessary; in short, treat ail the prominent symptoms
as you would under any other ciretimstnuces. giving tin*
“Fluid” at the same time as directed, and success will
crown your efforts; indeed, you cannot realize it till you
have seen, and then you will be a-touislied at tin* ease
with which you can control ull febrile excitement.
Auxlllnriea.
Parties may feel at a loss to know wliat is meant by
mthartlcs, Ac., as physicians are usually particular
alumt what Is used. I have found no such necessity
when using tho Fluid, and to lie luliy understood by
all, I will name a lew of the different articles of medi
cluo l have referred to, viz;—

bowels, sueli as castor oil, salts, senna, any of tbe roots
or barks, anil many jails, antibilious, Ac.: Anything
known to be good for such purpose#.
Hr put U *. —Anything known to act on the liver
jiorMcularly, portal circulation mid secretions generally.
Any of the articles depended on by tho different schools
for 111 in purpose, will answer when used in connection
witli tin- “Fluid” or while tlie system is under its in
fluence. And one may clioosc calomel—another, blue
lllASS—the third, podopliylliii—the fourth, niandrake
root, and HO on; each may taka his choice und Is* suc
cessful.
Tonics.— Article# that give tone or strength, such
a# quinine, various barks, roots and bitter herbs, llonc
sec or thorougliw ort is one of tin- host used in fevers.
Astringent#.—Such us clu-ck Hie action of the
bowels. Laudanum and other preparation# of opium are
used; also. liiauy mixtures, not properly Astringents,
which have the effect.
MtlmulisntK.—Article- tlmt raie ,r excirn the
system. Ciipsicum (Cayenne pepp. r) is one of tin- lu st;
ginger, spirits, hartshorn. Ac., tlie essences ure all more
or less stimulating. Those ure tho only classes necessa
ry in treating fevers, though many others are generally
used, but the Negative Fleet tic Fluid is a liet'er “dia
phoretic,” -anodyne,” “diuretic,” “relaxant” and
“ sedative” than known in the Hint, t in i„--./.,v>.
