TANARUS, avoid eoiislaul repetition, and CoudeUHt- the treat ment as much as possible, I give under this head general directions for all cases. As (lie Negative Electric Fluid will cliuugo the condition called lever, or -II fid lie and control it under al, circumstances, without regard to the name It may boor ought to lie called, it should he given wherever or whenever it exists; yet it cannot be ex pected to control all organic or local causes, which, when such exist, mind lie removed in order to effect* permanent cure. Wto-iJ uch iudieallous occur in any ease, they sliould be appropriate means, and these sobuld be given while giving the “ Fluid.” and in connection with it. when occasion requires, us they will then more readily act, producing more general effect, besides no unnecessary thus will then ho lost. As the *,Fluid” alone will snli diie the fever, 1 call all else auxiliary treatment. If the bowel* aru costive, give u cathartic (see auxili aries) with the first dose, or soon after, and should it tail to operate iu due time, repeat tho dose; if attended with diarrhoea, give something known to l*i good for iliat complaint, though if caused by irritability, tho •• Fluid” will soou relieve that condition; if severe local paiu or inflammation, apply some stimulating liniment, a mustard plaster, a blister, fomentations of hitter herbs, or, perhaps, cloths wet in cold water, to the part; If violent |>aiu ill the head, apply cold water, ice water, If convenient, or some mailing application, and bathe tlie feet iii hot water; if the fever is very high, skin dry and hot, with great suffering, sponge or bathe the whole surface with water at an agreeable temperature; “tlie saline wash,” vinegar and water or spirits and water, either will afford great relief and aid the medi cine iu taking effect, after which there will bo no trou ble ; if the patient lias been reduced or is much prostra ted, give tonics and stimulants, particularly iu low fevers, in absence of fever or when indicated; also, during convalescence, when the patient has become re duced; if there is nausea and vomiting, that must be allayed before any medicine will remain on the stomach to do any goad; for this purpose 1 generally give some gentle emetic to cleanse the stomach; warm water, if given plentifully, will auswer every purpose; when the stomach has settled, give tho “ Fluid” and a cathartic if uucessary; in short, treat nil the prominent symptoms as you would under any other circumstances, giving the ” Fluid” at the same time as directed, aud success will crowu your efforts; indeed, you caunot realize it till you have seen, aud then you will be astonished at the ease wilh which you can control all febrile excitement. Auxiliaries. Parties may had at a loss to know what is meant by cathartics, Ac., as physician* are usually particular about what is used. I lmve found no such necessity when usiug the Fluid, and lo lie fully understood hy all, 1 will name a lew of tlie different articles of medi cine X have referred to, viz Cat hart lea.—Articles that purge er o;aTato on tlie bowels, such as castor oil. salts, scduh, any of the roots or harks, aud many pills, antibUious, Ac.; anything knoxvu to be good for such purposes. llepntlcs.—Anything known to act on thu livur particularly, portal circulation and secretions generally. Any of the articles depended on by the different schools for this purpose, will answer when used iu connection with the •• Fluid” or while the system is under its in fluence. And one may choose calomel—another, blue mass—the third, podophylliu—the fourth, mandrake root, and so on; each may take Ids choice aud be suc cessful. Tonics.—Article* that give tone or strougth, such as quinine, vuiious barks, roots and bitter herbs. Bouo •et or tlioroughwort is one of the best used in fevers. Astiliigeiit*.—Such as check the action of the bow els. Laudanum aud other preparations of opium are used; also, many mixtures, not properly astringents, w hich have the effect. Miinnlants.—Articles that ruise or excite thu system. Capsicum (Cayenne pepper) is one of the best; ginger, spirits, liartslmru, Ac., tlie essences are all more or less stimulating. These ure thu only classes necessa ry in treating fevers, though many others are generally used, but tho Negative Electric Fluid is a better “dia phoretic,” •• anodyue,” “diuretic,” “relaxant” and “sedative” than known in the materia male, m.
