GREAT TRIUMPHS
AND
UNPARALLELED SUCCESS OF
lUIODHS’ FEVER AND AGUE CURE,
OR
ANTIDOTE TO MALARIA:
Equally certain as a Preventive or Cure.
NO POISON. PROOFS !
Set: w hat the President of the Pharmaceutical Society
of Missouri, says of Rhodes’ Fevei and Aguo Cure, or An
tidote to Miliaria:
St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 10, 1855.
HAVING notlcodthe certificate of chemical analysis
given by the celebrated chemist Dr. J. R. Chilton,
of New York city, in saver of Rhodes’ Fever and Ague
Cure, tliat it contained neither Quinine, Arsenic, Mer
curp nor Strychnine, aud having received numerous ap
plications for it, I w;is induced to send to Dr. Rhodes
for tlie medicine. Since then I have disposed of a large
quantity, mostly to residents of this city, w ho have inva
riably been cured by it, and to whom 1 can refer. I am,
therefore, satisfied in recommending it to bo all that
the proprietor represents.
EDWARD S. WHEATON,
Prcsd’t of Pharmaceutical Society of Missouri.
TO Bottles Perform TO Cures.
Constantine, Mich., Sept. 24th, 1855.
James A. Rhooes, Esq.—Dear Sir: —I have just sent
an order to Ames & Hnlliday for another hull’ gross of
your Fever and Ague Cure. It lias sold like 11 Hot Cakes,”
and 1 have only two liottlos on hand. One reason it
has sold, is because whan 1 have heard of a case of Ague
or Chill Fever, 1 have sent a bottle and told them to try
it, and if it did not help them, they were not obliged to
pay for it, and they were all satisfied. I had one ease
of Chill Fever where it run four days, but the man came
to see me on tho sixth day well satisfied.
Truly vours, JOHN P. GLADDING.
Only Caution.—Tn certain specified cases, pour
tiie contents of one or more bottles of the Cure into
shallow vessels, (dining plates,I and place them in
sleeping rooms ; for tho vapor rising from tho medicine,
and also the air wafted across, or circulated over the
dregs of it, after the liquid is evaporated, will counteract
aud oestroy, to a deg'ieo commensurate with its expo
sure, tho miasmata or poison contained in the apartment.
This mode of exhibiting tho Cure should likewise) be
resorted to when very young infants are exposed to
malarious si t nations.
The bottles in which this medicine is put up havo tlie
words, “Rhodes’ Feveu and Ague Cuke” blown iu the
glass, and on the outside wrapper is the name of tho
medicine, (the copyright of which is secured) and the
signature of the proprietor. These precautions arc
taken to prevent counterfoils and imitations.
The RELIANCE 80R ITS SUCCESS IS ENTIRELY UPON ITS
actual merits, wherever introduced and used. These
will he considered sufficient.

Origin of Alpaca.
The English correspondent of the Phil
adelphia .Bulletin gives the following in
teresting facts:
A “ demonstration” of a very interest
ing character took place a day or two ago
at .Bradford, in Yorkshire, iu the shape
of a presentation to one of the most re
markable men and eminent English man
ufacturers. The history of Titus Halt is
in itself a romance. lie is a “ self-made”
man. Burn in poverty, and educated in
abject toil, he is now, in the prime of life,
one of the richest men in the country,
and perhaps the greatest private employer
of labor in the world. .11 is fortune was
made by one of those lucky discoveries
that occur once or twice in an atie. The
story is worth tolling. A few years since
a woolen manufacturer, not troubled with
too much business, came to Liverpool to
buy the raw article required in his trade.
W bile here he was shown over a pile of
new warehouses, then thought one of the
wonders of the port, and his keen York
shire eye alighted upon a packet of some
thing that looked something like and yet
which was not really wool. In answer to
his enquiries, he was told that it was hair
shorn from a kind of wild goat, which in
habited South America, but that it was
hardly worth importing, as little or no use
could bo found for it. He examined its
texture, thought he could do something
with the almost unknown and neglected
produce, and begged to have a sample.
He took the hair home, made his experi
ments, kept his secret, and linding his
expectations as to the fabric which it
would produce realized, bought up the
raw material at a low figure, and manu
factured miles of the cloth, which is now
in universal use for coats, trousers, dros
ses, umbrellas, and an infinite variety of
articles, under the name of “ Alpaca,”
and which is a favorite material with all
classes in this country. The shaggy goat’s
wool has turned out to be a regular golden
fleece to Titus Balt, for out of the money
he has made by its manufacture, be has
built the largest mill in England, which
daily employs 3,000 hands, and has more
than double that number of families de
pending upon its existence for their own.
This palatial establishment, which com
prises a large town within its limits, is
named Saltaire, after its founder, and sup
plies the nation with Alpaca in every va
riety aiid form. Saturday was the anni
versary of Titus Salt’s birth, and the third
anniversary of the inauguration of his
monster works. His workingpeople show
ed their respect for him by making tho
occasion famous as another anniversary—
that of presenting to him a marble bust
of himself. To the number of 3000 the
hands marched in procession to Mr. Salt’s
house, which bears the cosey name of
“Crow’s Nest,” spent the morning pleas
antly in his grounds, had a grand dinner
beneath a marquee, and then they march
ed to Bradford, where in the St. George’s
Hull, (the principal building in the town)
the presentment took place amidst a great
display of complimentary speechifying.—
The demonstration has been vauutingly
pointed out as a proof of tho good feeling
which exists in this country between man
ufacturers and their employees, but un
fortunately every rich mill owner does not
display the same care and consideration
for his work people as does Titus Salt.

! F. great and important events —Religious, Political,
J. and Military—now agitating the nations of tlie Old
World, give to these Publications an interest and value
they never before possessed. They occupy a middle
ground hotweeu tlie hastily written news items, crude
speculations, and flying rumors of the newspaper, and
liio ponderous Tome of toe historian, written long after
tlie living interest in tho tacts lie records shall have
passed away. The progress of tlie War in the East occu
pies a large space in their pages. Every movement is
closely criticised, whether of friend or ol foe, and all
short-comings fearlessly pointed out. The letters from
the Crimea and from the Baltic in Blackwood's Magazine,
from two of its most papular contributors, give a more
intelligible and reliable account < f Ihe movements of the

As Organs of the most prolbnnd writers on Pciertee, Lite,
