IVe have heard of some curious adventures with regal'd to bales and cargoes of cotton, Lays the Liverpool Mail, but certainly never until this week did we hear of the great staple I ( ,f our port being an article in which the Court [of Chancery had any dealings. It appears, [ however, that some sixty years ago, when ■cotton was worth from some Is. to 2s. per i pound, and 180 bales were imported into Liv [,,, p#ool from America. The cotton, on being I landed, was warehoused, but owing to some | dispute between the importer and the ware- I house owner —the sale of the cotton delayed | for a long time —legal proceedings were taken [which resulted in the cotton being “thrown | into Chancery,” and there it has remained uu | til a few days since, when it was sold by order |of the court, realizing 4fd per lb. Had the | cotton sold at the original price, and had the [interest which has accrued during the sixty j years been added to the charge, it must have [ realized some 30s. per lb. —Charleston Courier.
