CAUTION TO THE PUBLIC. ffUIK whole country is Hooded with Counterfeit and .JL Imitation Schnapps. The public should he careful to purchase only the genuine article, manufactured and imported by Udolpho Wolfe, which lias the name of the manufacturer on the Bottle, Cork ami Label. For sale by all respectable Grocers and Druggists. Read the opinions of the New York Press. UDOLPHO WOLFE, 22 Beaver St., New York. From the New York Mercury. Fraudulent Imitations or Superior Commodities, Among the many dishonesties of trade which the mor al sense of the community is called upon to suppress, we would particularly notice a most pernicious and infamous practice adopted by unscrupulous dealers of imitatingaml counterfeiting the exterior appearance and precautionary labels of popular drugs, medieanienta, and other articles of personal consumption, and thus, by seizing upon the Well acquired reputation of an enterprising trader, pal ming off most destructive aud worthless compounds, to the sore detriment not only of the consumer, but to tin character of the man who has expended thousands of dollars in bringing the genuine article into esteem aud demand. These petty larceny thieves are tlie pest of all honarable dealers and traders, aud the trade is as much highway robbery as the violent appropriation of their neighbor’s purse ; in fact they are beneath the burglar and highwayman indignity—for these latter felons ex hibit a bravery or recklessness of character in nowise dis tinguishing the mercantile assassin who stabs in the dark. And ought they not be rewarded with a punish ment commensurate with the cowardice of their crime? We were led to these remarks by accidentally observing a spurious counterfeit of Udolpho Wolfe s Sclieidam Schnapps. The labels were imitated perfectly, with the slight addition of a few letters to plead technical avoid ance of the law against Counterfeiting; the bottles were very similar, and every thing carefully prepare! to im pose upon a careless purchaser. Now is not the man who perpetrated this fraud, a felon a robber? Assuredly he is; for, as Mr. Wolfe has expended large sums to bring his genuine imported schnapps into popular demami, that demand may be justly considered a part of his cap ital in trade, and a fellow stealing a part of his reputa tion is as much of a tliief as if he had stolen 11 barrel of his schnapps ill bulk. And to this crime he adds a fur ther oue of defrauding the community by giving them a ruinous article for the money they intended to expend for a commodity in which they had confidence. And, further, every man who participates indirectly in the fraud, by selling spurious articles is as much “fan offen der as the principal who planned the imposition. Too remedy of Mr. Wolfe should lie in his holding all concer ned up to the contempt of the community tliusswindled by their operations, and unconsciously imposed upon by their noxious composition. We trust that Mr. Wolfe will obtniu names, not only of the concoctors of these counterfeits, hut of every mail offering them forsnle.iiml then publish them to tho world: for his own reputation and the health of the community demand that all parties should he aalle .l to The pillory of popular execration. From the New York Dispatch. AN INFAMOUS BUSINESS, When an enterprising man strikes out anew business, to the establishment of w hich lie gives his industry, time, talents and pecuniary means, cun anything he more con temptible than to have another steal iu. and. under spe cious pretexts, hold out to the public an inferior urtiele. and endeavor to obtain their patronage? Pray, what difference is there, so far as the honesty of the thing is couccrned, lietwecd purloining the business by which a citizen hopes to make his bread and stealing the bread itself? A common thief, if lie takes witbou *aw, how ever hungry, aloaf of bretui hoiu a baker’s shop, isappiv heiuled aud coudeimied to the penitentiary for daring in a feurreptfttioun manner to uppAaw* hia appetite: hut put a renpeefahh* looking coat on hi* back and a few dollar* in liif porket, aud he may. with impunity, nay, even with the applauno of his fellows, by knavery, forgery or other infamous means, take the business of an honest man from him, and go unscathed of justice. All this is wrong. Some years since a gentleman of this city (IJdol pho Wolio) introduced to the citizens of the I ’nited States a medicated article of gin* which was highly anpfoved by professional gentlemen us a superior tonic ami deohstm ent, and the knowledge of which ho, by advertisement and otherwise, disseminated throughout the country.— So soon as tricksters, who psiss in the business commu nity as honest men, saw that Mr. Wolfe was likely to have handsome returns for the time and money which lie had expended, they sot about forging his labels and palming otf upon the people detestable and poisonous compounds which they have the hardihood to call “Schie dam *Svhnapps. ,? In some instances they have gone so far as to put Wolfe s name to their villainous liquids.— As tjiis horde are growing bold iu tl>cir rascalities, it is time the public in town *ud country were put upon their guard. Commuters should he sure that they purchase the genuine article, or else..their health may be irrepara bly injured by using the horrible stuff t hut unacrupuhiue men, because they can buy it clomp, will otter as the gen uine article. Pure Hdieiditm Schnapps cun only bo ob tained at the stores of respectable merchants find drug, gists, in town and country, and at the establishment of Udolpho Wolfe, Nos. IS, *2O and 22 Denver Street, in this j city, where It is gotten up exclusively. We think it a du ty which Mr. Wolfe owes to himself ami the community to publish, by name, the rascal* who are thus attempting to defraud both him and those who would lie his custo mers. JLu should not permit hia modesty to hold him back from making s righteous an expose. AUJiNTF JN SAVANNAH: John 11. Moon* Jl Cos., A. A. SoHonions A (’., A. Mo naud.M.J, Klltty, W.
