CAUTION TO THE PUBLIC.
rpilE whole country is Hooded wit li Counterfeit and
X Imitation Schnapps. The public should be careful
to purchase only the genuine article, manufactured and
imported by Udolpho Wolfe, ‘winch has the name of tile
manufacturer on the Bottle, Cork and Label.
F'or sale by all respeetable Grocers and Druggists.
Read the opinions of Lite New York Press.
UDOLPHO WOLFE,
22 Beaver St., New York.
From tlie New York Mercury.
F’kauoulert Imitations of Sltekiob Commodities,
Among tlie many dishonesties of trade which tlie mor
al sense of the community is called upon to suppress, we
would particularly notice a most pernioiuusaiid infamous
practice adopted by unscrupulous dealers of imitating and
counterfeiting tlie exterior appearance and precautionary
labels of popular drugs, medicaments, and other articles
of personal consumption, and thus, by seizing upon the
well acquired reputation of an enterprising trader, pal
ming off most destructive and worthless conjpoumls, to
the sore detriment not only of the consumer, but to tlie
character of the man who lias expended thousands of
dollars in bringing the genuine article into esteem ami
demand. These petty larceny thieves are tlie pest of all
liouarable dealers and trailers, and the trade is as much
highway robbery ns tlie violent appropriation of their
neighbor’s purse; in fact they are beneath the burglar
ami highwayman indignity—for these hitter felons ex
hibit a bravery or recklessness of character in nowise dis
tinguishing tlie mercantile assassin who stabs in the
dark. And ought they not be rewarded with a punish
ment commensurate with tlie cowardice of their crime?
We were led to these remarks by accidentally observing
a spurious counterfeit, of Udolpho Wolfe’s Schcidnm
Schnapps. The labels were imitated perfectly, with tin
slight addition of a few letters to plead technical avoid
ance of the law against counterfeiting: the bottles were
very similar, and every tiling carefully prepare I to im
pose upon a careless purchaser. Now is not the man who
perpetrated this fraud, a felon a robber? Assuredly lie
is; for, as Mr. Wolfe bus expended large sums tu bring
his genuine imported schnapps into popular demand,
that demand may be justly considered a pari of bis cap
ital in trade, and a fellow stealing a part of his reputa
tion is as much of a thief as if he had stolen a barrel of
his schnapps in bulk. And to this crime lie adds a fur
ther one of defrauding the community- by giving I Item a
ruinous article for tlie money they intended to expend
for a commodity in which they hud confidence. And,
further, every man who participates indirectly in the
fraud, by selling spurious articles is as much of an offen
der as the principal who planned t.lii’ imposition. Tin
remedy of Mr. Wolfe should lie in his holding ail concer
ned up to the contempt of the community tliussn imiled
by their operations, and unconsciously imposed upon by
their noxious composition. We trust (list Mr. Wolle
will obtain names, not only of the conooctors of these
counterfeits, but of every mail offering them ferrule.and
then publish them to the world; for ids own reputation
and the health of the community demand Glut ail parti,
should lie nailed to tin- pillory of popular execration.
From the New - York Dispatch.
AN INFAMOUS BUSINESS.
When an enterprising man strikes out anew business,
to tlie establishment of whicli he gives ids industry, time,
talents and pecuniary means, cau anyth ilia lie moreVon
temptible than tohave another steal in, and, under spe
cious pretexts, hold out. to the public an inferior article,
ami endeavor to obtain tlieir patronage? I’ray, what
difference is there, so fur as the honesty of tlie tiling is
concerned, betweed purloining tlie business by which a
citizen hopes to make Ills bread and stealing tlie bread
itself? A common thief, if lie takes w ithout leave, how -
ever hungry, a loaf of broad from a baker’s shop, is appre
hended and condemned to the penitentiary for dining in
a surreptatious manner to appeuse his appetite : hut put
a respectable looking abut on his back and a few dollars
in his pocket, and he may. with impunity, nay, even
with tin- applause of his fellows, by knavery, forgery or
other infamous means, take tlie business of an honest
man from him. and go unscathed of justice. All this is
wrong. Some years sinoe a geut.immn of this city (l’dol
plio Wolle j introduced to the citizens of the I oiled States
a medicated article of gin, which was liigiilj unproved by
professional gentlemen as a superior tonic and deobstru
enl. and tlie knowledge of which lie, by advertisement
and- lierwise. disseminated throughout the country.
,So soon as tricksters, who pass in the business commu
nity as honest men, saw that Mr. Wolfe was likely to
have hiindsome returns for the time and money which
lie had expended, they set about forging his label- and
palming off upon the people detestable and poisonous
compounds which they have the hardihood to call ‘-Schie
dam Kshuapps.” In some instances they have gone so
far as to put Wolfe's name to their villaißowsliquids.
As this horde are growing bold in their rascalities, it is
tlie public in town and eouutry were put upon tio ir
guard. Consumers should be sure that they purchase
the genuine article, or else their health may ho irrepara
bly Injured by using tlie horrible emit that unscrupulous
men, because they can buy it cheap, willofferas the gen
uine article, pure Selieidiun Schnapps onu only be ole
tallied at tlie stores of respectable merchants and drug,
gists, in tow n and country, and at the establishment of
Udolpho Wolfe, Nos. is. 2D and 22 Beaver Street, in this
city, where it is gotten up exclusively. We think it a du
ty w hich Mr. Wolf-owes to himself and the community
to publish, by name, tlie rascals w ho are thus attempting
to defraud both him and those who would be his custo
mers. He should not ]>ennit his modesty to hold him
back from making so righteous an expose.

HAIR RESTORATIVE.
\l r K GALL THK ATTENTION OF ALL, OLD AND
fV Y’OUNU, to the wonderful preparation, which
turns back to itrt original color gray hair—covare the
head of the bald with a luxuriant growth—removes the
dandruff, itching and ail cutaneous eruptions—causes a
continual tlowof the natural fluids; and hence, il used
as a regular dressing for the hair, will preserve its
color, and keep it from falling to extreme old age, in all
its natural beauty. We tail, then, upon the bald, the
gray, or diseased, in scalp, to use it; and surely, the
young will not, as they value the flowing locks, or the
witching curls, ever be without it. Its piaise is upon
the tongue of thousands.
