The ladies would do well to attend the morning sales, intended principally for their benefit The Novelty Works.—We desire to direct the attention of the public to the card of the em ployees of the Novelty Works, recently de stroyed by fire. Now is the opportunity pre sented for the exercise of true charity and generosity. See the card. Sherman A Cos. have received an extensive assortment of trunks and saddlery. Those who need anything in their line may be assured that this firm can furnish it of the best quality, and on most reasonable terms. We invite attention to their advertisement. Mrs. McAllister begs to return her sincere thanks to the various Fire Companies and citi zens who so nobly saved her residence and property from the fire which destroyed the Novelty Works, on the 7th instant. Columbus, Ga., April 12, 15G0. K. G. C. There will be a meeting of the lv. G. C’s to-night, in the Lodge Room of the Sous of Malta. Members are earnestly requested to attend, as busiuess of unu sual importance will be brought up for attention. Mr. Yancy’s Speed*. Wc are indebted to some friend for a copy of the able speech delivered by Hon. William L. Yancey, in the Democratic State convention of Alabama, held at Montgomery, from the 11th to the 14th January last. It was printed at the Ad vertiser Job Office, and is very neatly gotten up. Gen. Bicltley. We learn from the Confederation that Gen. Geo. Bickley arrived in that city on Monday night and left Tuesday for Au burn. He will return to Montgomery on Saturday. We are not authorized to state it, but presume he will visit Colum bus before returning, and probably will attend the meeting of the K. G. C’s. to night. ♦ liiver News. The steamer Oswichee, Cnpt. Berry, arrived at her wharf yesterday evening about one o’clock, having been detained about forty hours on Woolftdk’s sand bar, ten miles below. She brought up a light freight. She will leave for Apalachicola and intermediate landings about noou to-day. The River Bride will leave for Chatta hoochee and Bainbridgs to-morrow morn ing at 7 o’clock. The river is falling gradually, and unless rain comes to their assistance soon, it will be impossible for the heavy draught boats to reach this point much longer this season. The Hank Robbery—s7,soo Reward By reference to the advertisement of Mr. L. G. Bowers, it will be seen that a reward of §7,500 is offered in lieu of that offered by him yesterday, for the recove ry of the money recently abstracted from the Agency of the Marine Bank in this city, together with the arrest of ami proof sufficient to convict the thief. The re covery of thg money will secure §5,000, and §2,500 additional will bo given for the arrest and proof sufficient for convic tion. No clue, so far, lias been obtained to the perpetrator of the deed, and no further developements have been made ; but it would seem that a sharp detective would not let the matter remain so long in view of the large reward offered. A Cnrtl. We, the undersigned, employees of the Nov elty Works, desire to express for Mr. F. W. Flynn our regret for his misfortunes in connec tion with that concern. We were sharers with him in the general ruin by fire; but his worth as a man, in all his relations with us, is not for gotten. Wo tender to him our services as workmen and friends, and trust that agenerous public will contribute towards the building of a shop for him, where wo may all find work again. CALVIN F. MILLER, lIARRY BTt'MPF, JOHN OLIVE, 11. O’HAGAN, WM. HEROINE, MOSES MORRIS, WILEY ROBERTS, JAMES McURATH. There will be a grand procession of all the monastic orders to Home, who will afterwards de part for their monasteries and convents, chanting the Miserere as (hey passthrough the city. The person who give.l mo this information does not think the sentonce of excommunication will be pronounced by the Pope himself, but hy a Cardinal selected for that purpose.” ♦ Violent Tornado, , Avery violent tornado passed through this County, west of this place and in the neighborhood of Clinton, on Saturday night last. Plague and Sore Throat.—This quality of seizing hold and causing tho expulsion of depraved humors, is pos sessed by no other medicine than Buandrkth’s Pills. They operate only upon the tissues in volved in, that is affected by the disease. In fact, they seize upon those humors, not so much from preference as from natural affinity, because their life is below those of the surrounding parts, and which, settling on tlic tissues of the throat, that is, around the throat region, produces sore throat, sore throat plague, and the severe headache and fever. Within au hour after four or six pills are taken, there is felt a peculiar creeping in the part affected, a sort of collecting up of the diseased humors ready for expulsion, No hurt or weaken ing effect can ever arise from their use, because they caunot act upon healthy parts. Taken early they prevent all organic diseases. Oh how impor tant in sickness to use medicine which only extin guishes tile disease and leaves no evil effect behind. BROOKS, corner Broad and Randolph streets, and by all respectable dealers in medicines. aplO-lm To tlic Planters of tlie South! — The great difficulty in managing disease among the negroes is their great aversion to tako the medicine prescribed by physicians. “ Dr. J.
