an important meeting on Saturday morning.
The former customers of W. W. Robison aro
referred to the card of his successor, Mr. W
M. DaCosta. ‘
P. M. Biggers & Cos. are in receipt of a fresh
supply of bacon; also of corn, meal and grits.

Dr. J. Bovee Dods’ Imperial Wine Bitters are

delightful beverage. It may be found at Aceo

Fine Assortment or Boots and Shoes.— ln an
other column appears an advertisement of
Smith & Daniel, dealers in boots and shoes, 122
Broad street. We have looked through their
stock, and it is as large and varied as any ever
before brought to the city. It embraces boots,
shoes and gaiters of every style and quality
adapted to men, boys, ladies, and misses. In
fact, any style of shoe worn or suitable to tiie
season, can now be found at their establish
ment. In addition to this they have received a
largo stock of negro shoes, which planters
would do well to call and examine. Smith &
Daniel are very attentive to customers, desirous
of pleasing, and are in all respects worthy of a
liberal patronage. AVe would direct special at
tention to their advertisement.
For the Daily Sun.
Eds. Sun : I notice in your issue of this
morning, that you object to publishing
the communication of “Citizen,” in re
gard to what is known as the “Barn.” I
am not, of course, posted as to the con
tents of that communication, or the sug
gestions therein contained. I infer, how
ever, from your remarks, that it was
suggested to lay violent hands on it by
an outraged people. I am. gentlemen,
as much opposed to mob violence as you
or any one else ; yet there are times and
occasions, and cases which the law does
not, nor can reach. In such cases I hold
and honestly believe, that all good, order
and peace loving people, should meet and
enact a law and enforce it instanter.—
The “Barn” —its former inhabitants—
and the recent shameful proceedings had
therein, calls loudly for action by the
surrounding citizens. It is .all very well
for you and others, who are removed from
the locality of such dens to write articles
of peace and patience, and appeal to us
who lo”e law and order, to do no violence.
It might be different were the carion
placed at your door. Nor is the “Barn”
the only instance where respectable peo
ple are annoyed by a class of abandoned
men and women. All over our city,
where rooms can be had, they are fasten
ing upon us, and we have no redress.
If we go before the grand jury, the law
requires us to prove point blank, what is
an impossibility. Circumstances, how
ever strong, will not answer to found an
indictment on. At your very door, a
man and woman may live in adultery;
but you can not prove it. You know the
fact exists, but to prove pointedly actual
occurrences sufficient to establish an ac
tion is entirely beyond our reach. Now
what must we do ? Sell out and move ?
That is impossible. Grin and bear it?
That is asking more of me than you
would be willing to do. There is only
one answer. Drive out such characters
peaceably if you can, forcibly if you
must. ANOTHER CITIZEN.
May, Howard and tlie Mobile and
Girard Kali Road.
From an address of this gentleman, to
the stockholders, published in the Daily
Sun of yesterday, we see there are many
complaiuts against him and we infer that
there is a movement on foot to turn him
out.
We know personally nothing about the
road ; Major H. may have managed it
badly for aught that we know, but one
thing we do know, that when he took
hold of it, most people considered it
worthless, if not worse; it extended only
about 20 miles, was out of money and
credit, and badly in debt. Under his ad
ministration, it has been extended, we do
not know how far, we suppose forty or
fifty miles, and is still getting along.
One thing is certain, he has made it all
that it is, and he did it when nobody
else and every body else connected with
it either could not, or would not do any
thing with it; since nobody else could or
would do as well as he has done for the
past, is there any security that any body
else will do any better for the future?
AVe think not, and it is our opiniou that
it is better to take the certainty of his
managing it as well for the future as he
has for the past, than to take tho chances
of getting somebody else to manage it a
great deal Averse. —Corner Stone, (20th.)

To tlie Planters of tlie South!—
The great difficulty in managing disease among
tho negroes is their great aversion to take the
medicine prescribed by physicians. “Dr. J. Bovee
Dod’s Brandy Cathartic,” for Liver Complaint,
Costiveness, Dyspepsia, Bilious Affections, and all
diseases requiring a purgative, is a truly reliable
and < fftetive remedy. Asa general Family Ca
thartic it is specially desirable, as it is pleasant to
the taste and can easily be given to children and
negroes, who always refuse the nauseous pills
with which the country is flooded.
Every family should be supplied with this val
uable medicine, au it is cheaper, more agreeable,
and equally effective as the best pills which are
made. CIIA3. WIDDIFIELD A CO., Proprietors,

The “Vegetable Cathartic Syrup” for infants,

IJOR Statesmen, Judges, Editors, Phy-icians of
- the oldest schools as well as now, give it their
unqualified sanction, uud recommend it for all
cases of eruptions, and diseases of the scalp and
brain; but all who have used it unite in testifying
that it will preservo the hair from being gray ami
from falling to any age, as well as restore. Read
the following:
Oak Grove, S.C., June 24, 1859.
Prof. O. J. Wood —Dear Sir: Vour Hair Restora
tive is rapidly gaining popularity in this commu
nity. 1 have have had occasion to lay prejudice
a-ddo and give your Hair Restorative a perfect
test. During tho year 1854,1 was so uufortunato
as to bo thrown from my sulky against a rock
near the roadside, from which my head roceived a
most terrible blow ; causiug a great deal of irri
tation, which communicated to the brain and
external surface of the head, from the effects of
which my hair was finally destroyed over tho
entire surface of the head. From tho time I first
discovered it dropping, however,up to the time of
its total disappearance, I employed everything l
could think of (being a professional man myself,
and, as I thought, understanding tho nature of
the disease,) but was finally defeated in every
prescription advanced.
These and no other circumstances induced mo
to resort to your worthy Hair Restorative, which
I have every roason to believe produced a very
happy result: two months after the first applica
tion, I had as beautiful a head of young hair as I
ever saw, for which l certainly owe you my most
sineoro thanks. Rest assured, dear sir, 1 shall
recommeud your remedy to all inquirers; more
over, shall use my influence, which, I Hatter my
self to say, is not a little.
You can publish this if you think proper.
Yours, very respectfully,
M. J. WRIGHT, M. D.
Office of the Jeffersonian, \
Phillippi. Va., December 12th, 1853./
Dear Sir: 1 feel it r.iy duty as well as my plea
sure, to state to you tho following circumstance,
which you can use as you think proper. A gen
tleman of this place (a lawyer) has been bald over
since his early youth; so much so that ho was
compelled to wear a wig. He was induced to use
a bottle of your “Hair Restorative,” which he
liked very much; and after using some two or
three bottlos his hair grew out quite luxuriantly,
and now ho has a handsome head of hair. The
gentleman’s name is Bradford, and as ho is very
well known in our adjoining counties, many per
sons can testify to tho truth of t His statement; I
givo it to you at tho request of Mr. Bradford. You
can soli a great deal of your Hair Restorative in
this ami the adjoining counties, if you have the
proper agents. Yours, Ac.,
THOMPSON SUGHNOR.
Dr. Wood: Dear Sir: Permit mo to express the
obligations lam under for tho entire restoration
of my hair to its original color; about the time of
arrival iu the Unittd States it was rapidly be
coming gray, but upon the application of your
“Ilair Restorative” it soon recovered its original
hue. I consider your restorative ns n wonde> ful
invention, quite efficacious as well as agreeable.
S. THALBERG.
Tho Restorative is put up in bottles of 3 sizes,
viz: large, medium and small; thennall holds
a pint and retails for one dollar per bottle; the
medium holds at least twenty per cent, more in
proportion than tlie small, retails for two dollars
per bottle; the large holds a quart. 40 per cent,
more in proportion, and retails for $3 a bottle.

W. E.Hagan, Troy, N. Y.,— Dear Sir: Having
used your Hair Coloring or Restorative, and being
much pleased with it, 1 take pleasure iu making
the following statement: From the effects of a
very severe fit of sickness, when about 18 years of
ago, my hair commenced turning grey, and so
continued to grow until it became perfectly white,
being very harsh nml course. Lust summer I bud
reached my fifty-third year, when 1 was induced
by a friend to purchase two bottles ot Ileimstreet's
Hair Restorative, prepared by you. 1 commenced
using it according to directions, and in a tew days
wav surprised to find that my hair from the roots
outward was turning back to its original color.
It so continued to grow until it was as truly
brown and glossy us it was in my youtlnul days,
and is now fully restored to its original color.
MYLA SEAMAN.
Ksßex County, ss.—Myla Seaman came before
me and was duly sworn, and says that the above
statement is true, this 6th day of February, 1858.
JOEL F. POTTER, Justice of the Peace.
PITTSFORD, Vt , August 1, 1857.
I hereby certify that my hair having become
quite grey, I used Ileimstreet’a Ilair Restorative
(prepared by W. E. Hagan, Troy, N. Y.,) for four
weeks, and my hair was iu that timo restored to
its original color. I can fully recommend the ar
ticle to bo all it claims.
WILLIAM KINGSLEY,
Pastor of the Baptist Church, Pittsford, Vt.
Mr. W. E. llagan : I have used Ueimstreet’s Ilair
Restorative for three years, and find it to be a most
excellent article. It not only restored tho color (f
my hair, giving it new life and strength, but it
cured myself and wife of a most obstinate eruption
upon the scalp, which nothing else seemed to benefit.
I fully believe it to be the best article in use.
Yours, respectfully,
KNOWLTON HOWLAND.
Tho above nro but a few of the many letters of
recommendation which have been tendered to tlie
proprietors of Heimstreet’s Hair Coloring or Re
storative. It has been used by thousands of peo
ple, and it never fails to restore tho color and
growth of the hair. This singular effect is not
produced as when dyes are used ; for its acts upon
the natural secretions of coloring matter at the
roots, and thus effects the change. The color pro
duced is not a counterfeit, but the. natural shade of
youth. It does not color tlie skin.

CHALYBEATE RESTORATIVE
PILLS OF IRON.
AN Aperient and Stomachic preparation of Iron
purified of Oxygen and Carbon by combustion
iu Hydrogen. Sanctioned by the highest medical
auiborities, both in Europe and the United States,
and prescribed in their practice.
The experience of thousands daily proves that
no preparation of Iron can be compared with it.
I mpuritiosof the blood, depression cl vital energy,
pate uud otherwise sickly complexions indicate its
neiousity in almost every conceivable case.
I noxious iu all maladies in which it has been
tried, it lias proved absolutely curative iu each of
tho following complaints, viz:
In Debility, Nervous Affections, Emaciation,
Dyppopsia, Constipation, Diarrhea, Dysentery,
I m-.ipient Consumption, Bcrofuloua Tuberculosis,
bait Rheum, Mismeubtruatiou, White?, Chlorosis,
Liver Complaints, Chronic Headaches, Rheuma
tism, Intermittent Fever, Pimplesi n tho Face, Ac.
Jn cases of General Dehility, whether tho re
sult of acute disease, or of tho continued diminu
tion of nervous and muscular energy from chronic
complaint s, ono triulot thiH Restorative has proved
successful to an extent which no description nor
wi itUn attestation would render credible. Inva
lids so long bi and ridden us to have become forgotteu
in their own neighborhood, have suddenly re-ap
peared iu tho busy world as if just returned from
protracted travel in a distant land, borne very
signal instances of this kind are attested of female
sufferers, emaciated victims of apparent maras
mus, sanguineous exhaustion, critical changes,
and that complication of nervous and dyspeptic
aversion to air and exercise, for which the physi
cian has no name.
In Nkhvous Affections of all kinds, and for
reasoim familiar to medical men, tlie operation of
this preparation of iruu must necessarily te salu
tary, for, unlike tlio old oxides, it is vigorously
tonic, without being exciting and overheating;
and gently, legulariy aperient, even iu the most
obstinate eases of costivencss, without ever being
a gastric purgative, or inflicting a disagreeable
sensation. *
It is this lattor property, among others, which
makes it so remarkably effectual and permanent a
remedy for Biles , upon which it also appears to
exert a distinct and specific action, by dispersing
the local tendency which forms them.
Iu Dyspepsia, iunumerahlo us are its causes, a
single box of these Chalybeate Pills has often
hudiced or the most habitual casts, including the
attendant Costiveness.
In unchecked Diaurikea, even when udvaucod
to Dysentery, confirmed, emaciating, and appa
rently malignant, tlie effects have been equally
decisive and astonishing.
In the local pains, lows of flesh and strength,
debilitating cough, and remittent hectic, which
generally indicate Incipient Consumption, this
remedy haw allayed tho alarm of friends and phy
sicians, iu several very gratifying and interesting
instances.
Iu JiCßOFULOusTuiikrculosib, this medicated iron
has had tar more than the good effect of the most
cautiously balanced preparations of iodine, with
out any of their well known liabilities.
The attention of females cannot bo too confi
dently invited to this remedy and restorative,in the
cases peculiarly affecting them.
In Rheumatism, both Chronic and Inflammato
ry—fn the latter, however, more decidedly—it has
been invariably well reported, both as alleviating
pain and reducing tho swellings and stiffness of
the joints aud muscles.
in Intermittent Fevebjß, it must nocossarily be
a great remedy aud energetic restorative, and its
progress iu the now settlements of tho West will
probably bo one of high renown and usefulness.
Nh remedy has over been discovered in the
whole history of medicine, which exerts such
prompt, happy, and fully rostoratlvo effects. Good
appetite, complete digestion, rapid acquisition of
strength, with an unusual disposition for active
and chrorful exercise, immediately follow its use.
