New Advertisements.
If any one has bills of the Manufacturers
Bank of Macon on hand, they can exchange
it for good and warm clothing and dry goods at
Blunn & Franks.
Horses must eat, and they are fond of Yan
kee Hay. Charley Phelps,; at the Muscogee
Depot, has lots of it arriving.
I. C. Moses, notwithstanding the hard and
tight times, continues to give articles away—
that is, in exchange for specie or good bank
notes. See his notice of salo to-day.
Almost every one likes to smoke a good cigar.
All such will call at Mr. Durand’s, on Randolpli
street —they can find an almost endless variety.
We know they are good for we have tried them.
Speaking of cigars reminds one of tobacco,
and that reminds you that Watkins & Brown
ing, at the old Express office, have a largo
stock of any brand you want, whieh they sell
wholesale to merchants alone. Read their
advertisement.
Members of Muscogee Building Association
are referred to notice from their Treasurer.
River News*
The steamer Uchee, Capt. Stapler ar
rived at the wharf on Wednesday evening
and left for Apalachicola yesterday after
noon.
The river is rising slowly. Its present
condition is very good for the boats run
ning.
The steamers Time and W. 11. Young,
are both below, and may possibly be at
our wharf by Saturday or early next
week.
Attention, Southern Guard,
The red, white and blue—the red
cheeks, the white teeth and blue eyes of
a lovely girl are as good a flag as a
young soldier in tho battle of life need
fight for.
What do you all say to making us a
handsome present for hunting up this
best and most beautiful of old flags for
which you can all fight, when Uncle Abe,
sends for you ?
Fine Cabbage.
We observed, yesterday, in front of
Mr. Lee’s agricultural store, several
heads of very large and superior cabbage
of the green glaze variety. They were
raised by Gen. Bethune, on his garden
near the city, and reflect credit upon his
indefatigable industry and energy in
competing with the North for a large
trade in this article. We trust that an
other season will enable the General to
supply the entire demand of our city.
There are other vegetables which some
of our enterprising farmers should direct
their attention to, such as Irish potatoes,
onions, and beets, all of which can be as
successfully raised around Columbus as
anywhere else.
Macon Fair.
Our people should not forget that the
great fair and exhibition of the industry
and resources of the Empire State of the
South, as well as a large variety of lor
eign goods, wares and merchandise, open
in Macon on next Monday, nor should
any, who can help it, omit to visit Macon
on this occasion. Such a gathering of
our people just at this particular junc
ture, is fortunate, for here can be seen at
a glance, the metal we are made of—our
enterprise, our resources, our wealth,
education and social virtues. Just now
when the great heart of the public throbs
with renewed energy when recurring to
the political storm which is sweeping over
us, when the timid shrunk away and the
daring face the fierce and angry clouds,
and the more moderate and conservative,
is diligently casting about for some spot
whereon to ground a hope for the future,
wo repeat it is a proper and fitting oc
casion to come together and sec and learn
what Georgia is, and contemplate what
she can be, if her sons and daughters will
remain true to her. Let all go, old men
and young men, mothess and maidens,
all raise the loud acclaim for Macon and
the Fair.
Holman Troupe,
As Ibis company of Juvenile artists
are now performing in our city, wo think
the following from the Macon Telegraph,
of the 28th, just in season, to let our
people see how they were appreciated
in Macon:
The Holman TuourE— Flag Presen
tation. —This company is winning gol
den opinions and good purses. All say
they present one of the most original
chaste, and interesting entertainments
ever offered to the Macon public. To
night is the benefit of the young ladies,
and on this occasion they will present to
the minute men, a beautiful flag .of their
own handiwork, with the device of fifteen
Stars and an appropriate motto. The
presentation will be accompanied with
appropriate cerimonials, and constitute a
very attractive feature in the evening’s
entertainment. Qo early to secure seats.
This is the last night of the Troupe in
Macon.
Our Streets.
Are anything but inviting, especially
to our lady friendß whose necessities cull
them from the comfortable hearth-stone.
If there is any one thing we want more
than another, as a oity, it is good and
clean crossings, and to have such, they
should be graded or macadamized. We
have an abundance of flint stones on our
bluff which at a moderate expense could
be transferred to these crossings and
make them firm , safe and plasaQt to
walk on. The present plan of semi-an
nually carting gravel from the bluff to
raise the crossing is a sheer waste of time,
and ruinous to the bluff. We think the
Btreet committee would do a most excel
lent aot by directing the Marshal to use
the chippings, near the Palace Mills, for
this object. At least the experiment is
worth trying and will cost very little.
Hits. Sun: —We beg to suggest through
your columns the names of the following
gentlemen as suitable representatives in
our State Convention, 17th January, for
consideration of our Federal relations:
Rev S. 11. Higgins, Rev. J. 11. Devo
tee, Rev. J. S. Key; Rev. Dr. Hawks, as
alternate.
They are men of wisdom and piety,
free from partisan feelings, having naught
but their God and country’s glory at heart
Such are the men we need. We have
mentioned these names to hundreds of our
citizens to day, and we have not found
one single objection to their nomination’

HAPE’S NITROGENIZED
SUPERPHOSPHATE OF
LIME 1
Head tho following Letter.
Newberry, 8. C., October, 1860
Prof. J. J. Mapes —Dear Sir: I bought twenty
bags of your Nitrogonized Superphosphate of
Lime, of your Agents, Messrs. 11. A N. K. Solo
mon, Hamburg, S. G., (who solicited a statement
of its offects,) and applied it to forty acres of my
poorest cotton land.
This laud is on the public road, where its effects
wore seen. My neighbors, who are acquainted
with the land, were astonished at tho luxuriant
growth of tho cotton where I used your Super
phosphate. It produced better cotton, and a largor
amount, than on my good land, loss work was
needed in making the cotton than on my other
land. Not apa Hide of rust was to be seen where
l applied 3 our Superphosphate, while the rust
prevailed over every other portion of my cotton
orop. Respectfully yours,
DAVID PAYNE.
Note. —Mr. Payne’s pood land compares favora
bly with the best cotton lands on the Saluda river.
The Saluda bottoms are proverbial for producing
large quantities of cotton. *

hereby informed, that from this day- on we
will offer our entire stock, which is yet complete

On account of a misfortune to one of the firm,

iu order to insure speedy sale, believing at the
same time, that wo will meet with better success
at the opening of the season, while oar stock is
yet new and complete, and almost every body is
iu want of a winter tupply, than to wait until
