TXTILLIAM SMITH, Watch- JgS _ Ts maker, No.Bl Broad street, begs to inform the respected in- [/j / habitants of Columbus and its /augl vicinity that bo has relinquished JSKsS 1 ‘dXv for the future the sale of Watches, and intends to give his whole attention to REPAIRS ONLY. Watches are such delicate machines that if in fixing them the inind is at all abstracted from tho object in view it is very un certain about them being pioperly done, and if you employ a workman to do them for you it is i still as uncertain —for where you get ont done properly and to yonr satisfaction you are likely j to find three not fit to put iuto a customer’s pocket; and Mr. S. does not hesitate to say there is no one so likely to do them justice as the i master that knows his trade, and whose whole ! and sole interest is absorbed in them. Mr. S.has a good stock of well-selected Watches by him, and which he will dispose of at a great reduction, providing too much time is not taken up the sale, otherwise they will be sent to public uuction. There is a negro woman belonging to the estate of Dr. Hamilton, late of this place deceased, says Ihe Rome Courier, who was formerly very blur/c but is now of tawny white color. We understand that the change occurred gradually iu j this way: small white spots appeared, | and these enlarged until they run iuto each other aud spread over her entire body. From the New York Herald. i nminUstniinii from Texas In ftteu- Mexico, Arlioms, Sonora and Chi liualiua. Washington, March 2d.—lntelligence has just been received here and it was laid at once before the administration that commissioners arc new in New Mcxi ■_ >, Athens, Honora aud Chihuahua, des patched hence, by the independent State of Tcaii • to coufer with tbd people of these Territories iu relation to tho present po litical crisis, and to invite (heir co-opera tion in the formation of the Southern confederacy to be composed of such slave States as may unite themselves for this object. The commissioners uso the fol lowing significant language in their ad dress to the people of those Territories : “ Every argument aud every appeal hith erto made .u behalf of the prosperity of our once glorious country seems to hovo proved inadequate to the task of crush ing out the black fanaticism of the North, and the current of secession, impelled on | by a sense of duty and hereditary honor by tho South, caanot be turned to its fountain. Irreconcilable as the thought may be to American patriot, the stern fact is palpable that the bonds of our Uuiuu are severed. The beacon light of hope, which a few days ago loomed up in tire heart of every lover of his country, now flickers dimly iu the socket, and ap parently no earthly power can avert the dissolution of the slave and non slave States of tho Union. It must be deter mined whether you will loDger, feeding upon hope, live in anarchy, or forget a government by whom you have been dis carded, even turning a-deaf ear to your supplications, and at whose duor you can justly lay lives aud fortunes of many of your best citizens. The matter seems to be well received. The commissioners are invited to atteud a convention, convened to meet on March 111, at Messilla, for tho purpose of taking into consideration the present political crisis of the country. This convention, it was confidently believed, would adopt some plan for the carrying out of the movement contemplated by the Commis sioners. This intelligence lias caused great un easiness on the part of the administration. This is another embarrassing question ; but it has to be met, and that promptly too; for the administration clearly sees iu the movement the designs of the South towards the fertile plains of Mexico. The ICxtra Scanlon of Congreia, Washington, March 24.— The Cabi net session of yesterday was protracted until a late hour last night. What de termination, if uny, they came to has not transpired. It is more than probable that they failed to reach anything defini tive in regard to tho policy to be pursued towards the seceding States. The question of an extra session was before them, and a gentleman who lias the run of the kitchen at the White House stated to day that be did not see how the administration could get along without an extra session. He received his im pression undoubtedly from the President, b'everal members of the Cabinet are known to favor an early assembling of Congress. Thero are others who fear to tako such a step, lest it may, as in for mer administrations, be the precursor of speedy downfall. There is a rapidly growing sentiment here among conservative men favorable to the adoption of the constitution of the Confederate States. They regard that instrument as a great improvement upon the old one, and what is more important, they assert that by its adoption the Union is again restored and peace and fraternal feeling between the sections irrevocably cemented. Catkollcu and their Political Dutlea. The following is tho conclusion of Arch bishop Hughes’ address at New York, on St. Patrick’s Day : He said that in our own country, where there had been lately so muoh excitement —all of which he trusted would termin ate amicably—[applause]—for every man, North and South, (they called it North and South,) though they talked about division nnd civil war—there was but one rule fora Catholic wherever he was: that was to do his duty—to do his duty as a citizen. If, living south of Mason and Dixon’s line, ho thought those on that side were right, he ought to fight there; and if we here thought the other way, we would fight too. [Applause and laughter.] But no matter bow deep and wide they might contrive to make the chasm dividing the North and South in their political relations, they could not divide the Catholics on both sides of the line: for, though they might not be very distinguished engineers, so far as reli gion was concerned they could throw a bridge over the chasm. [Great applause and laughter.] Prairie CltlckeMa at Washington. The astonished backn.cn in Washington say the Republicans are singular chaps, for they are all walkers. They walk to the White House, they walk to the Capi tol, they walk to the Navy Yard, they walk to Georgetown, they walk the ave nues all dny, and then walk to a hall, and walk home and take another walk after they get there to straighten their legs before going to bed. Such chaps are good for shoemakers, but a poor set for the hackmen. One of these prairio chick ens, they say, can walk down any haok in Washington. Anew Southern boat, the J. A.
