Dauoutku. The Baltimore American
says:
Mention was made a short time since,
of the arrest of Mrs. Sommea and her
daughter, Mrs. Miluor, on the charge of
having sent poisoned wine to West’s
Buildings Hospital, for the purpose of
poisoning the officers of that institution.
The matter was given over in charge of
the civil authorities, the Grand Jury of •
the Criminal Court investigating it tho- '
roughly. That body came to the con- ■
elusion that there was not sufficient evi- \
dence of guilt, and dismissed the charge.
Some of the officers partook of tho wine
and were affected in a similar manner
us if arsenic were therein, and, the wine
being subjected to a chemical analysis,
it was ascertained that a sufficient quan
tity of nrsenio had been put it lo oaufc
nausea, if nut death. That Mrs. S. and
her daughter were unaware of the fact,
was shown by their having sent some of
the same kind of wine to their friends,
rebel prisoners, in the same hospital.—
The wine had been bottled over two years
—and it is supposed that the poison was
put into it by au unknown person.

Homicide.
On tho 14th instant, Robert' Taylor,
of Greenville, was brought before his
Honor John K. Henry, nectised of hav
ing murdered Henry Clay Bedell. Tay
lor Is tho man who killed Tho father of
Bedell some months since.
It was proven upon trial, that ou the
eveuiug of the tilh inst., about early
caudle light, Henry Clay Bedell went
into the front room of the storo of Mr.
Bemcut, and at that time Taylor, with
somo others, was in the back room of
the store drinking whisky. Taylor,
hearing Bedell’s voioc, drew his pistol
from his bosom, cocked it and wont a
step or two into the front room, while
Bedell was leaning on his right elbow
ou the counter talking to Mr. Bement,
with his back to Taylor, and shot him
in the back just above aud on the right
hip. Taylor then rushed out at tho
front door, aud Bedell saw him and ex
claimed, "ihe cowardly rascal has shot
uie.” Taylor ran off and returned with
a loaded double-barreled shot gun, and
while Bedell was showing the wound lie
.had received, Tuylor again shot him iu
the dark from the street, in the right
breast. Bedell exclaimed, “that damn
ed rascally coward has shot me again,
and has killed me.”
Bedell rushed lo the front door aud
discharged his pistol iu tho direction
from whence the report of the gun came.
He then commenced siukiug to the door,
und asked those present to “case him
down,” saying lie was a “dead man.”
They laid him dowii ou the door, and as
ho Was breathing his last breath, Taylor
came iu and shot him twice as he lay
upon the floor, and snapped a third cap
at, him, alchough importuned by those
present not to do it. lie then went into
ihe hack room for whisky, and after lie
had drank iwioe, took a bottle full with
him, and said as lie went out of the door,
“l am satisfied—L have done what 1
intended to do.”
His defense consisted only of two or
three threats that Bcdeli had made when
under cxeilemcfil, and JJedell’s general
character : but was not much, as no
demonstration was made by Bedell at
the time of killing, by word or act, going
lo show that it was his intention to at
tack Taylor.
His Honor the Judge refused lo admit
Tuylor to bail, but commuted him to
prison to await his trial at the next term
of the Circuit. Court of Butler county
fur murder. X.
Cunions Claims.— A Baris letter sayg:
A curious lawsuit is on the lupis here,
and 1 doubt if there has ever been a
precedent for it before the American
bar. Mr. Lrlanger, the Baris banker
who engineered ihe Confedevule cotton
loan, und who,, it is said, is about. Io
make a belle rebolle, has been sued by a
couple of Englishmen, who claim no less
than Xu5,000, for having introduced him
to Mr. Slidell, l’reposteroiis as the
claim limy seem, there is a serious legal
trial to establish it now iu progress.
Another similar case, charging commis
sion for an introduction, is also in dis
pute iu London. Mr. S., of a well known
commercial house, charges £I,OOO for
introducing Mr. 11. to. Mr. C., between
whom there follows a sale aud purchase
of ten thousand Knfield rides. If these
claims are established,’introducing busi
ness men to each other iu Europe will
he about the most profitable and agree
able vocation a poor man can adopt.
The Toronto Leader relates that, last
Monday a Buffalo steam tug, with two
scows in tow, got too far into the current
of Niagara river just above the falls for
the head of steam ou, and the captain
and crctf of four men becoming alarmed
leaped* overboard, and struck for shoro.
The captain and three men succeeded iu
getting l» laud, hut the fourth man sank
beneath the leaping and boiling waters,
und was carried over the awful cataract.
Some men in oue of the scows were res
cued by two boatmen, who put off in a
skiff to their assistance. The tug aud
one scow went over the fulls, but the
other scow struck on a rock just before
the brink, and remains there.
