The Only Ktiouict.
A good one is told of one of the wealth
iest men in Columbus. After General
Wilsou’s raid the gentleman was over
whelmed by his immense losses, and to
a pariy thus expressed himself “Gen
tlemen, I’m ruined—the hard earnings of
yea;s gone in a moment My negroes
aud ail are guns, and all in this world I
have to depend upon is seien hundred bales
of cotton.
Wanted to be Her Own ‘‘Boas.”
Borne excitement and fua was caused
Wednesday afternoon by a colored mam
my furiously, with big stick, following a
little darkey girl who broathlessly in her
haste was swearing she’d be “her own
boss’’ in the ooming time. Little ’un con
ducted retreat most skillfully, doubling on
the pursuer and cutting off at angleß. At
last parient gave up pursuit, exclaiming
“take yer freedom yer nasty little
wretch.” Little’un ju3t then turned the
oorner, and henceforward will “bossee"
her own affairs
Dost HU Gun.
We oan now langh over the ooour Slices
of the raid. A certain minister in cur
city, who presides with ability, over one
of our largest congregations, had a shot
guD, which for safe keeping, he threw, the
night of the raid, into his well. The
Federal soldiers, when they enteied town,
came directly to his, as well as other
houses, and the first thing wanted was
water. The water was drawa, when, lo and
behold, there came up in the bucket, that
doable barrelled gun. The minister at
first was taken greatly aback, but finally
joined in the laugh with ihe soldiers who
carried away the fusee.
Central Railroad.
The Macon Telegraph learns that W B.
Johnston, President of the Central Road,
bas effected an arrangemant through Gen.
MoCullum, whereby he obtains iron and
rolling stock on time from the Govern
ment, sufficient to equip the entire line
from Macon to Savannah, thus completing
railroad communication with the North
The road is being rapidly rebuilt.
Mobile Medical Ucllcge.
Dr. Nott informs the Mobile Advertiser
that the Mobile Medical Colledge will not
be opened, because ihe buildings have
be n appropriated by the Frtedmen’s
Bureau to the purposes of a negro aohool,
and because a great number of the most
beautiful and cosily models, anatomical
preparations, etc , have been taken off
by those now in possession, and the chem
ical department, which was unequaled in
any school in our oountry, <» occupied by a
negro cobbler. The institution cost the
State over SIOO,OOO.
Oof. Johnson was in Macon Friday,
taring returned from Atlanta os that day.
