The treasure oaptured among Jeff. Da
vis’s effects by Maj. Uon. Wilson’s forces,
in Georgia, and taken to Washington by
Mr. Twomoly, of the Redemption Bureau
of the Treasury, has been counted at the
cashier’s room of the Treasury,. It
amounts to eighty seven thousand eight
hundred and seventy eight dollars in gold,
mostly old coinage ; eight thousand eight
hundred and twenty-two dollars in sil
ver ; one hundred and ferty six pieces of
foreign com, gold and silver, were not yet
estimated, and fifty six bricks of silver,
weighing over five pounds eaob, the esti
mated value of which is one hundred
dollars each; the value of the whole be
ing somewhat over one hundred thousand
dollars. Scmo of this money and bullion
is claimed by the Bank of Virginia, the
Exchange Bank of Virginia, and the
Farmers’ Bank of Virginia, as being a
portion of their funds carried off at the
time of the evacuation of Richmond. No
decision has yet been made by the Depart
ment on the elaims that have been made
for it.
