To Louis Olson Goclicke, M. of Germany,

anew and doctrine lo the science of medi
cine,—a dor trine, which, though vehemently apposed
by many of the faculty (of which lie ia a valuable
nieniitcr,) he proves to lie as well founded in truth, as
any doctrine of Holy Writ, —a doctrine, upon the
verily of whieh are suspended the lives of millionsof
our race, and which he. boldly challenges his oppo
sers to refute, vis. ? Consumption is a disease always
occasioned bv adisordered state of the Vi* Vine (or
Life- Prim iple) of the human body—yVoften secretly
lurking in tlir. system for years, before there is the
least complaint of the lungs^i—and which may lie
as certainly, though not so quickly, cured as a com
mon cold or a simple headache. An invaluably pre
cious doctrine this, as it imparts nil imjiorfaiit lesson
to the apparently healthy of both sexes, teaching
them that this insidious foe may be an unobserved
inmate of their “clayey houses,” even while they
imagine themselves secure from its attacks, teaching
them that the great secretin the art of preserving
health is to pluck /ait the disease while in the blade,
and not wait till the full-grown ear.
Appended below arc n few eertifirates of cures
from the extremely numerous list that has l*xm sent
to the proprietor ; and from the respectability of the
sources from which they emanate, the most skeptical
cannot doubt of the wonderful cfleets of this medi
cine.
