Below we publish a call for a meeting of the
people of thia county, to be held at the Town Hall
in this place on Saturday week, to "consider the
propriety of ratifying the doing? of the Southern
Convention recently assembled at Nashville.”
Aa will be seen by those who era acquainted
with the signers, this is a call by tie people tor a
meeting of the pro?!*. The office-holder* and
office-hunters are not movingin the affair. It will
be, emphatically. « meeting ./the people. This is
a significant fact, and shows the state of fooling
among the people of the country. It will also be
observed tbst the signer* are about equally divided
between the two parties.
Let the people come op—let them give expres
sion to their opinions, whatever they may be. If

and deserved tributes ut respect to the memory of
the deceased patriot.

Agreeably to Resolutions passed at a previous
meeting, on the subject of constructing a Plank
Road from Clarkesville to Athens, Georgia, or
Anderson, South Carolina, the citizens of Haber,
sham, and the surrounding counties, met at Clarkes-

occupies no equivocal position on the compromise
bill of the SSenate—and we do not hesitate to de

meeting adjourned to meet in the court house at 5

barbecue, which had been aerved up for the occa

months, Mrs. Ctxthia W. Grzee, wife of Thomas
Greer, deceased, in the 68nl year of her age.

uniform and decided, yet of gentle and unostentatious
character. She was not what might be called a bold
believer, she had her seasons of doubts and misgiv
ings, arising uot from her distrust of the sufficiency of
Cluist, but from a deep and habitual sense of her own
unwortliiness.
She had been an exemplary member of the Baptist
