Spirits of Turpentine,—The superiority of the
American over the French continues to make the lat
ter very slow of sale in our market, while a large and
increasing demand predominates tor the former. We
are at very low prices now—speculative ones indeed—
seen by the quotations. •
Pubpentine, or Gum Thus, is scarce here ;
ing at about £7 per ton.
- RosiN.—We have generous stocks, but a large de
mand ; some 5,000 barrels selling weekly. American
common, and French brai-noir are somewhat lower,,
but the medium and fine qualities maintain their posi
tion. It is a singular fact, which "American distillers
should note, namely, that the finest/ whitest Rosin, or
superfine Virgin, is made in this neighborhood, and
on an English patent The finest American parcel on
hand is now selling at £14 10s per ton, while the patent
English is freely selling at £15 10s to £16, But even
the English make is not as pure as many of on? buyers
wish to see it, and is quite open to American super-
sedure.
Rosin Oil manufacture has attained great perfection
here, and some of it is classed as White, equal in color
to White Lard Off. On exposure, however, It dis-

side of the river, above Oakville, on the 22d
